I wonder what Sonko's farewell piece will be like on the official site? What, he's still here? I thought Pompey was a sale, didn't think there was any chance of him taking Sir Peter's cash ever again

Yes in many ways he symbolised our first season - some of the post match celebrations with him and Sorro will live on in the memory.
Farewell big man.

Will always be a legend for what he helped achieve at this club. His legend status is secured in these parts. I'm sad to see him leave, but it's the right decision. He would be a top signing for a newly promoted club, and i really hope he comes back to the Brit with another team, so he can recieve the ovation he deserves. Good luck Abdy!

Abdy was the first "proper" Premier League footballer we had and it showed.
He played a massive part in our first season bringing strength, composure and confidence that rubbed off on the team (and fans). His celebrations at the end of that season will live long in my memory.
It was unfortunate that his body seemed to give way and that he fell by the wayside so quickly.
It was great that he signed off with an excellent cameo performance against Arsenal. Even then, the fact that several times he put the ball into Row Z when he would have previously held the ball and bounced a few players off indicated that even he knew his legs had gone.
You would think he could do a "Taggart" for a Championship club.
I wish him well.

Not many players can attain legend status in one season but Abdoulaye Diagne-Faye managed it for Stoke. Thanks for everything Abdy and good luck for the future :-)

As other posters have said he definitely deserved a farewell at the Brit.
No doubt something has gone on behind the scenes that has left his exit unsavoury and thats a big shame.

Goodbye and good luck, big fella. However for me you were neither "the best player I have ever seen in the flesh" in your first season, nor were you "a liability" in subsequent seasons.
Nothing wrong with other folk having these opinions of course, I just wanted to present an alternative viewpoint that he was "rather good" once, and is "not quite so good" now.

Abdy is a legend and is the best player I have ever seen in the flesh. We will never see a player more influential than Abdy in his 1st season here. He was calm on the ball and could play it out of defence, had great positional sense and his tackling and heading were 2nd to none. He wouldnt have looked out of place in any team in England that year and without him we wouldn't have survived our 1st season.
Thanks for the good times Abdy and we wish you all the best.
