Good luck - a great player for us.
I wonder what Sonko's farewell piece will be like on the official site?

Helped us to stay up in the first season and scored some massive goals that went towards it.
Good luck in the future Abdy.

Good luck Abdy. Celtic and Leicester rumoured to be after him. Some people will never rest until they find out why he didn't get a farewell, though.

It is sad as he was so immense in year one and did a good job in year 2, to a lesser extent. It is evident though that his career is winding down.
All the best big fella, hope you have happy memories of your time at Stoke as Stoke will always have happy memories of you!!!

World Class first season, shame he never found that form again. In my books one of Stoke's all time top signing's, may he dance on forever ;D

Quality. Just quality. Huth was brilliant last season but I think Abdy bettered it with his performances in 08/09.
Take care, big man.

An absolute collossus of a player in his first season, he was the best defender in the league that year, outstanding defensive ability and commitment and his skill and composure on the ball was nothing short of remarkable. I'll always love the bloke, it was time to move on though, he was poor on many occasions last year, he's always been a bulky lad and I think it all caught up with him in all honesty. It's cringeworthy seeing a player and a person you've really appreciated cocking up and Abdoulaye did that on many occasions last year. An end of an era, as soon as I heard we'd signed him I thought ' yeah, this is going to work, perfect signing', I remember him being unbelievably good at the Brit the previous year when we played Castle in the cup. He'll still make a good defender for a championship side - heart of a lion, just a shame his touch of gold abandoned him. Rarely has a player been at one with a group of fans in such a short amount of time - his celebrations at Hull away will be an image which will stay with me forever. One of Pulis' many sensational buys, unfortunately, Sonko's signing was one of his many fuck ups. I don't think Pulis has made many ordinary signings, I always seem to love 'em or hate 'em ;D Goodbye Abdoulaye

In the first season he was outstanding, one of the best season's I've ever seen any player have at Stoke. He'll go down in our history as a great.

Got to expect a fairly big name CB coming in now surely, leaves us very thin at the back as cover for Ryan and Hoot

Got to expect a fairly big name CB coming in now surely, leaves us very thin at the back as cover for Ryan and Hoot I'd hope we get Ridgewell in as he's a good centre back as well as a very solid full back - hopefully Higgy has one more season left in him.

Based on his first season, Abdy's the best centre-half I've seen at Stoke (along with Huth).
I've never seen anyone at the back look so composed on the ball. He was so good he could take the piss out of centre forwards with some of his body-feints and ball-control. You just never felt concerned when he had the ball at his feet as he never seemed to lose possession, whatever the circumstances. Without him we'd never have survived that first season, and we'll forever owe him a debt of gratitude for those 12 months.
However, you could tell something wasn't quite the same in the second season- Abdy had obviously lost that bit of pace and sharpness that could get him out of trouble. He'd still try the same tricks on strikers, but this time he didn't always get away with it, and you'd be watching through the gaps in your fingers rather than casually laughing as Abdy brought the ball down in a crowded penalty area. He was never absolutely awful, but there'd been a visible deterioration in him, as shown by his constant injuries and his weekly hobbling departure from the pitch.
To be honest he's not been any worse this season than last- he's done us a decent job as cover at times, but at 32 he's probably only got another 12 months of football left in his legs, either in the championship or in Scotland.
Many thanks Abdy, you'll always be a legend here- old father time catches up with everyone in the end.

Thanks Abdy. I'll never forget the end of the Blackburn home game in the first season, where we won 1-0 and were effectively safe from that point on. It was an emotional moment, and I don't think I'll ever forget his lap around the pitch, with his arms wide open like in the picture above. I know he would have quite literally murdered Rooney if he'd had the chance, it'd have been like Gerry Taggart on Dennis Wise. The first time I heard him talk in an interview made me laugh as well, one of the hardest players in the league with a squeakier voice than Alan Ball. He was untouchable in that first season with us, incredible to watch. He's given this football club an awful lot and it's a shame we haven't been able to give him a send off.

All the very best for the future Abdy, you'll take Stoke City with you in your heart.
I remain convinced that he has nurtured Ryan into the player he's becoming and he hands the reins to Huth now.
Sorry to see you go but all great things must come to an end x
