The gas engineer came to my student house earlier and asked what I was going to do once I'd graduated.
He said that I should think about working abroad, but I said I don't know whether I'd like doing that as I don't know if I can stand not being able to go to Stoke every week, to which he was fairly surprised to say the least.
Would not being able to go to Stoke stop anyone else from going and living abroad, or is it just me, who needs to loosen the obsession with football?

Be like leaving your kids behind.
Thing is, kids grow up to be little bastards but my love for Stoke gets greater!

Living in Norway you could of course watch every Stoke game on TV if you want to, but it's nothing compared to actually being there! My dream would be to live in Stoke for a year and follow the team, but this is not likely because of my job. Anyway an appealing thought! ;D

Personally, no matter how much I love Stoke I think it would be stupid to use not being able to watch Stoke as a reason not to explore in life and give yourself a better life

I would move to Finland in a heart beat (just somewhere that is special to me) but I would make sure I kept track of Stoke and made it back to the UK for a few games each season - at the very least for what will be our annual visits to Wembley ;-).

Interesting point, i have the opportunity to move to Italy with relative ease (because I speak the language and have contacts over there) but the problem is i couldnt live without Stoke. Its what keeps me going every week, and whilst i love the way of life over in southern italy, the summer air, the sea, the mountains, the ridiculously fine ass chicks, its just not something i can bring myself to do because of Stoke.
If we were guarenteed to play Palermo, Napoli, Roma and Lazio on an annual basis in the Europa league then I might consider it.

I'm moving out of Stoke when I retire, but I'll still have my ST. It will give my wife the chance to spend a day with her sister etc, while I go to the match. I doubt whether I'll ever spend more than a day back here after that. Football means Stoke, but football isn't my whole life, I could live without it altogether if doing so meant I could move to somewhere really special.

More to life than watching Stoke, you can do that layer in life, you may only get one chance to do what you want to do

i would only move away for a couple of months during the summer when there are no games on, you would end up spending a fortune flying back for games as you would miss it so much mate

I was a season ticket holder for years in the 70's but work took me overseas in 1981, 83 countries later I am now retired and living back in the UK, loved the experience and would do it again given my time again.

Yes, I would love to if possible. As a Norwegian I would love to live in Stoke-on-Trent. Or Northern Italy - think I could survive living there as well...

Everywhere is very busy (roads, restaurants, golf courses!!). Been twice and was very underwhelmed each time (although Key West was pretty cool). Ohio is cool. No one wants to live here

i had the chance to leave for america in 1990, i was single, had a sponsor for work permit and a job in seatle. i turned it down as i couldnt stand the thought of not watching Stoke home and away. the thing is im now married have 6 children and lost my job a year ago through no fault of my own and havent got a pot to piss in, let alone go and watch stoke, although family rallied round to get me to the final not sure if i have a point if im honest as i love my family and almost all parts of my life, never know if id have been better off overseas and you wont either, but you can always come home if you dont like it

although i don't live abroad, living down here in Dorset with my work i don't get many chances to come up and watch Stoke play, i love living down here it is agreat place to live, but the one thing i have always missed is going and watch the lads play, they don't get football down here they don't understand the passion.

Do it. If you don't like it, you can come back but I've lived outside the UK for most of my life and, if anything, it's made my support for Stoke even stronger as you're in a massive minority abroad. Plus, with football being the way it is nowadays, you can still watch every single game online. Granted, it's not the same as being there but life's about having a variety of different experiences and (tin hat firmly on) staying in horrible, shitty England just for Stoke is not enough. That's just my opinion though... I bloody love Stoke but my experiences overseas are the ones I'll tell my grandchildren about before my experiences of football.

Yes I would.
Canada ,USA , or Australia.
I certainly wouldn't wait around for the upturn in fortunes of Stoke on Trent because it hasn't happened in my lifetime and is not likely to in yours either.
Why....Its schools ,its job prospects , it's delapidated state, poor housing , crime rates and probably half a dozen other factors which I could think of.

I love Stoke, and it's bad enough living in Norwich and only being able to have been to about 12-15 games this season instead of the usual 30-35 which I do. Next year however, (2012-13), I'm hopefully doing a year in the States. This will be a life changing experience and whilst it'll be annoying to miss a whole season of Stoke games, in the long run, it will be worth it. I will always follow Stoke, but I wouldn't restrict making myself a better person and living a better life because I want to watch them every week.

Do it- bloody do it. I am moving back to Stoke in the next 2 weeks but hopefully only for a year. Then I am taking a year out of this country and going to travel a bit and try and get stuck into some charity work ( building schools etc ). If you get the chance do it- let's be realistic here; What has Stoke-On-Trent really got to offer somebody these days? Wages are not great the city is ours but it is not great- go out and see the world. I love Stoke as much as the next person but given the chance I would be on a plane/boat/train (this has the makings of a film )out.

Yep, did it and would do it again in a heartbeat.
You you mates and going to the football, and this weekend was a killer for me to not be there, but I have a better life, and my kids have a better life, you get one shot at being here, and you have got to make the most of it.
