My Dad passed away 2009 - took me to my first game and watched Sir Stan play his last in 1965. Also went to the semis and final as well as Ajax away.
I will never get over my loss but am so grateful for everything he did for me.
Miss you Dadx

Hearing Abide With Me has always brought a lump to my throat. From childhood, 2.45 on FA Cup Final day symbolised a huge slice of football heritage. The huge noisy crowd gathered doffs it’s cap in reverence. When The song starts the mood isn’t just about the game on the day. We reflect on, and celebrate, the glorious history of the competition. Cardiff’s shock win over Arsenal in 1927. It’s George Mutch’s late dramatic winner in 1938. Stan’s final in 1953. Nat Lofthouse’s controversial goalkeeper charge in the 1958 final and Bob Stokoe’s ecstatic dash across the lush green turf to embrace Jim Montgomery after his Sunderland team embarrassed Don Revie’s Leeds. We have this chance to carve our name in history. The memories this may bring could live with us all forever. In years to come we could cry tears of joy and reflect fondly on that day in May 2011 when we finally, after so long, won the FA Cup. Players might find this hard to believe but that means more than money… much much more.

I don't have the words for that. Outstanding, "If", "Abide with me" and Sir Stanley Matthews 3 of the greatest examples of British art.

Somebody should email a copy of this thread to TP, a print out of this on the dressing room wall is all the extra motivation they will need (mind you...........will they need any more motivation judged on the SF performance after Ric and Carlo's efforts?).
Might need to let the players read it early doors though as we can't have any tears in eyes at 3pm to affect performances Surely even the most stereotypical money obsessed player in our club would struggle to keep control of the bottom lip with this thread, not sure you could same about some of the arabian knights though?

Nice thread. No Stoke fans in my family before me I have to admit. Am just going to stand and take it all in. Never thought would see the day.
Not only will we have 25000 there but thousands watching from above it seems. :-)

Will be singing it for my Dad and it was a must at his funeral. He introduced me to the Vic, in those post-war days when more than 90% of supporters wore caps and braces, though it didn't worry me. Also for Mum (both died in the mid-nineties) who did so much for us, including queueing for hours for Cup tickets in our previously successful seasons and made so many sacrifices, in order to make us happy.

My uncle 1972 - 2003 aged 31, ironically the same age I am now. Took me to my first game, won 4-0, in the Ball era and I was classed as the "lucky charm". Took me home and away for years. And no doubt I will shed a tear thinking about him when it's being played. RIP.

Please stop me reading this thread. Every time I look I end out blubbing. I'm off again now. Think I'm going soft. But seriously, next Saturday it won't be 27,000 Stokies at Wembley. The whole history of the club is there. All our past generations of Stokies will be there. How can we lose with that support?
Goaaaarn Stoke.

My Dad, He took me 1975/76 season, I can still remember the first time I walked up the steps at the Stoke End, I looked and thought this is for me. Everytime I go to each home game I think of him.
Thanks Dad.

Me dad, Eric
Never got to see Stoke in the prem.
When Stoke were losing 7 0 at home to Brum and people were streaming out piped up "you'll miss a hell of a comeback - we'll be great again one day." He took some abuse but made me laugh at the time and still does.
He loved Abide With Me on cup final day, I'll be singing for him.

My Dad and my 'other' Brother, Mike Hughes, who I stood with all those times on the old Stoke End, who took this wide eyed kid to all of those epic cup games in the seventies and dried my tears at Hillsborough, Villa Park and Goodison. I just hope you'll be with us next weekend. I know for sure that we'll be with you.
