I've worked constantly for 6 years now and have no intention of quitting. But if I got made redundant or fucked off in some other way I'd have no hesitation in signing on at the first possible opportunity. Why? Because that's what benefits are for, that's what my national insurance pays for. I'll never feel guilty in claiming so long as I had genuine reason to do so. That is why we pay so much in taxes after all so we have that safety net to fall back on.

1000, you can't keep a good man down , it's hard but something will drop for you, a mate of mine has just moved back up to manc from here for the same reason, he got made redundant from the same place as me, the struggle is the same according to him. Jamlander, ta, it's something i have thought about but am concentrating on F/T at the minute. Might have to go down that route at some point. Fraise, cheers ;D Stenny, thanks fella, not an option to come over that way nowadays mate, i have family in cheadle, my uncle works at bamfords on leek road. My missus is a nottingham girl though and our lad goes to school just down the road so here i stay. There is a possibility that my story might have a happy ending, trent concrete who i was working for until the liquidators came in has been taken over by another pre cast concrete company and they are opening back up in early may, they might be taking some of the old staff on, i've been on the blower to the new owners staking my claim ;D

It would help if there were decent, reasonably paid jobs available, instead of the horseshit agency work which basically steals half your salary. I suppose working in a call centre can be rewarding and extrinsically motivating in a strange way .... Call centre operator :- "Good morning, this is a courtesy call to check if you would be interested in changing your service provider?" Pissed off non customer:- "Fuck off you twat I've just got out of bed, stop fucking ringing me or I'll ring your fucking neck" Yeah, motivational to push you through the fucking door. Now where are these jobs that pinky faced chubby boy says I need to look for This new benefit will do nothing to get the workshy back into work, they will just be paid slighlt less to sit on their arses watching trash tv. The decent people who are looking for work which is not there will just be made to feel even worse. Remind me again why we pay taxes and NI?. I thought a part of it was to go toward benefits you may need if you fall out of work ???

When you go to Tesco's do you expect to buy the milk for the same price as they buy it from the farmer for ? I would hope even for you the answer is no. The reason is that Tesco not only has to pay the farmer but pay it's staff, rent, electricity etc etc and make a profit, similarily an employment agency has to do the same, only in their cases they have to pay the people working through them, invoice the customer, pay over taxes and employers NI etc etc etc so they don't steal half of anyones wages As for the rest blah blah blah and actually from what I understand it will help the decent people back into work in that the new scheme will try and accomodate people who work irregular hours ie 20 hours one week, 10 the next etc etc in that if you take a job for 14 hours one week you won't have to sign off and then wait months for your claim to start again.

It will make no real difference to the dole dossing workshy, but it will to decent people like yourself. Then again, it was a measure meant to shave a few quid off the benefits bill, regardless of what it does to decent people. Oh for the treatment of the likes of vodafone eh

The tax dodging is a completely seperate issue. I'm not sure why its brought up as some sort of defence of people abusing the benefits system. Both need to be dealt with and I'm well aware of the respective amounts of money involved. Both are a form of stealing from the countries wealth.
When I say abusing the benefits system - I include those with poorly backs who are some how cured at night and make it down to the pub every evening and baby factories who continually pop out children without the slightest thought of how they are going to pay for them, with no intention of working at all for the next 20 years if ever.
People talk about it like its the odd family here or there - I could name at least 20 people without evening thinking too hard who take advantage of the system.
There is a problem of responsibility and an attitude of just expecting the government to step in. This means that those who are genuinely needing the safety net of benefits are tarred with the same brush as the useless lay abouts who contribute nothing.

I suffer from chronic spondylitis and it's never stopped me working. I just qualified in an area that meant I could work without my back being a big issue. I was told by my consultant 15 years ago that the severity of my condition made me unemployable, so I just studied part time until I qualified, then I went full time in my new job. The 'attitude' of expecting a government to 'step in', as you put it, is due to the fact that we pay fucking hard earned money into a system that is supposed to support us in times of illness and lack of employment. Shock horror then, when people have the common audacity to expect something back for their money It must be so nice to be able to sit in the comfort of your tower of ignorance and abject bigotry whilst passing judgement on others who might just have real ailments which stop them from working. I have dealt with clients who, to all intent and purpose, appear fit to work, yet are virtually unemployable. I agree that those who abuse the system should be found guilty and sentenced accordingly. The others I am increasingly feeling sorry for, but then again, I'm a socialist and not an ignorant nouveaux tory bigot

Those that are trying their best but don't know where to turn or those who need retraining into areas which would be more suited to their skills. In fact I think they should be getting far more help really. There's other cases where the person for whatever reason has gotten out of the loop and is now fearful of the whole working culture. People who just need a bit of encouragement and help to get going again. However, what I don't want to be supporting is a pack of useless wasters who cant be arsed to work and expect everything to be handed on a plate. They contribute nothing to society and so deserve nothing in return. I don't think its unreasonable.

But salop, do you truly, rationally believe fiddling scroungers are the reason the country's in a mess?? I'm not saying there aren't fiddling scroungers, never have said there weren't some, like I say there are always bound to be but how does saying the most powerless and on the whole rubbish people in a society are capable of bringing it to its knees make any sense?? no scroungers are not the reson we are in a mess, i am not saying that, same old socialist/liberal argument coming out again. target the benefit thieves working helps the economy paying out loads of benefits does not working gives self esteem benefits do not working sets a good example to your kids benefits do not certain people see a career in benefits, breed for fun and the children get in the same line of thought. that is not good for this country, morally, economically and ideology. sorting out the benefit culture will give an incentive to work but the government must make a situation that encourages job growth. it will come creating millions of bollocks public sector work isnt the answer either I agree with every word of that Salop You know the old stereotype of people living on benefits on council estates but smoke, drink and have a great fuck off plasma telly in the living rooms ? Well it's alive and kicking,I know a guy just like that in Newcastle, hasn't worked for years...well not officially,he says he's too ill but not so ill he cant work cash in hand when he's offered the work. His wife doesn't work either. He owns a couple of cars,a motorbike and yes a 50" plasma. He's the kind of person the govt should be targeting.

Yes but.... and salop I'm NOT having a pop at you.... isn't it strange how people lash out at benefits scroungers but then suddenly exclude most people they happen to know because they actually have a genuine case and are down on their luck usually through no fault of their own. OF COURSE there's benefits abuse and there will be with the new system too and it can always do with tightening up but what I just don't get is why anyone with eyes in their head blames the poor and feckless for ripping them off when it's so totally clear that it's the banks and people taking massive profits offshore who are doing the harm. It's like bullies lining up to kick the playground punchbag, sad as well as stupid. horse shit sal i know loads of people who milk the system whether it be sick benefits, housing benefit fraud etc i am not precluding anybody. roots is a decent lad who did me a favour he has worked all his life and now finds himself unemployed that is what the benefit system was set up for there a large number of idle classes who havn't or never intend to work. idleness is good, i canty wait one day to be idle but that idleness has to be earned the minimum wage whilst great in principle has not helped imo opinion because SOME people use it as an excuse not to work there has to be benefits of work. old ground again. it seems that the 9 oclock spoons crew enjoy the benefits of benefits Would love to fucking work and ive had jobs in the past now looking for at least 3 years nearly, Doesnt help that having a disablity as well in Dyspraxia, when companys dont want to fucking know! Oh and I have the Qualifcations as well as I went to college and im to over qualified apparently for Stacking Shelfs! Give us on Salop and I would do it if you could find us one! Normal Tories though looking at the short term and not the long term!

A recession mainly effects those at the bottom of the social ladder. The rest get in their BMW'S and Merc's oblivious and ambivalent.
The trick is to tap into this in a saprophytic way and offer those at the top end something new and something they want.
Sometimes the simplest and daftest business ideas are far more lucrative than many can possibly imagine.
For many on the dole however, they cannot due to financial constraints put their first step on that ladder.
It is far easier to condemn than it is to experience.
For many on here , the former applies.

Financial security and being better off is infinitely better than having bugger all 10% of bugger all is bugger all.
10% of a million quid is a lot of money.
The imbalance of wealth grows year on year.

The public sector is predominately the working class. MP's only earn about £70,000 so no , I dispute your point that they're people ''from all over the ladder''.

certain people see a career in benefits, breed for fun and the children get in the same line of thought. that is not good for this country, morally, economically and ideology. So what you are saying is our inability to be hard and tough enough to stop people making a career of Having Children or Becoming an Alcoholic or Fat and DELIBERATELY making themselves state dependant and unable to work is what has caused this country to its knees. My beef is that even though this is certainly true we ignore those people and chase people who are clearly unfit for work and have worked all their lives because in my opinion the government knows these people have a work ethic and are more likely to return to work. I see exactly the same approach with crime where we just constantly ignore repeat offenders because we know it will take more money to prosecute than we will ever get back from these individuals but come down like a ton of bricks on anyone of normal ilk who speeds by 1 mph or parks 1" outside of the lines. So the policy of this government is a TARGETED response levelled at people who still have a moral compass and just give up on and ignore the REAL problem people. My benefits are now ZERO I'm allowed my medicine for free as I would be dead without it. Can't wait for the Tory Asshole to come canvassing on my doorstep next general election.

Reducing the deficit, already by more than a third Cutting income tax for 25million people Creating more jobs Freezing fuel duty Capping welfare Delivering the best schools for young people Delivering the best skills training Secured a cut in the EU budget and vetoed the EU fiscal treaty Reducing immigration Crime is down by more than 10% He's a funny guy?
