Anthony Annan, €2 million Euros, had a brilliant World Cup and has been playing well for his side Rosenborg for in their league and Europe. An absolute bargain. Michael Bradley, signed on loan for Villa from Germany. Well within range, a Pulis type player and obtainable. O'Hara-may not be fit but I think he would be fit enough in a few weeks to be an improvement on what we have, it doesn't take much. All 3 bargains or potential bargains, we were nowhere to be seen. But again, as far as I know (correct me if i`m wrong) you dont know the ins and outs of these players do you? are they available? Do they want to come and play for us?? can we afford them?? If these players are "TP players" then why do you think we hanvn`t signed them?? No they aren't available, that's why they all have moved in this window. Wages-all would imo be attainable when You consider our actual alleged targets were Steven Ireland, Wilson Palacios and Jermaine Jenas! Because he hasn't got the inclination or knowledge of football outside of this country.

Pulis brought from abroad and none of them performed, I think Pulis wants to sign players he knows about rather than recomendations.. For what it's worth I think both Martins and Muntari will do shit! I think theyve been signed for their name rather than their form. Mankou and Bradley are risks, I think...Ones that might pay off, but ones that might not! I think he will keep a close eye to see how these risks pay off for the rest of the window! And then if they pay off, he will look abroad post season. The likes of Villa are an established prem team though... They can attract the better scouts, they can afford for the manager to fuck off for a couple of days to look at a player and leave the day to day running of the club with asistants/coaches etc. They have established links....The Mankoun only signed because of Houlier. It wll take a couple of years for us to get to that stage, until then whatever Pulis is doing is working... They were barely given a chance! Between the 3 of them (Arismendi, Phillips and De Laet) they played 2 Cup games and 2 league games. It's laughable! We have been in the Premier League for 3 years, I don't think it's any excuse. TP simply doesn't want to use that market because he is shit scared of it. And that isn't good enough.

I think to claim that a professional football manager at a premier league club has no knowledge of football outside this country is a ludicrous statement to make.
I would agree that he is overly cautious, but I recon your being a tad irrational after a "poor" deadline day for the club. Sleep on it and tell me tomorrow that you were wrong!!
Night All, and chin up!!!

It's a view I've held for years now. And I never said no knowledge, he just hasn't got enough. And I don't think he's got a good eye for a quality central midfielder. The best he has signed is John Eustace.

The one thing that we really did need desperately was a left- back, not a striker that wouldn't get any service or a playmaker that would be forced to sit on the bench, just a left back and then I'd be confident that we'll finish mid-table.
Now we need all three of them in the summer (we'll probably just get another striker, ffs), as well as a right back, a ball winning midfielder and someone who will provide cover on both wings. (Ben Marshall?)

I'm not disappointed at all. Did anyone think it would be any different? Pulis always targets proven players and proven players cost big money, they are interested in money NOTHING else. There are two ways forward, 1) Explore the foreign market and that means expanding our scouting system. Unfortunately unless they are proven and are African Tone not interested. 2) Invest in youth, absolutely no chance under the present manager The other thing we could try is the evolution of our playing style, Tone will tweak the system but will he change it....NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!!!
Pulis has done a great job but can he evolve ala Holloway...only time will tell!!!! I love how far we've come and cedit to all at the club, can we take the next step??? Hopefully

Charlie Adam , if as reported Spurs went in for him at £ 7 mill and ir was accepred, he really should have ben one we we went for. Not on high wages and would improve our midfield 10 fold. Crazy if we didnt try. OK the talk of Liverpool turned him but he would be saleable asset and a clause at 11 million to release him would not have been the end of the world. He would have been cheaper than WP,

The one thing Im annoyed about really is that Pulis has said to all the fans to be prepared for a busy week of dealings. I wasn't aware that that only meant we would lose two strikers.
Thats not to say that yet again we have been shafted by a club or player, for all Pulis knew, we may have had 3 deals in place only for them all to fall through.
What does concern me is Pulis's logic in thinking, I was under the impression that if we let go of Tuncay and Eidur that a replacement was nailed on to be coming in. Now no other club that we usually deal with allow us to take one of their players unless they have a replacement lined up.
So why are we so different??. I like Mama Sidibe for his passion, but I shudder at the thought that yet again, once fit, he will walk straight back into the set up.

Well it's Feb 1st and as I see the sun come up over Mile End (Pompey), I'm wondering what I have learned from this thread which seems to have lasted forever. Well first of all, the ITK's only know half of the story, and why should we believe anything different? After all, 'DAVES VIEWS' are exactly that - VIEWS! It's not his fault that a great many of us hang on to every word he says, so i'm not ashamed to say that maybe i've been a mug in that respect! Tunny will be missed by many, some will say he wasn't that effective on the few occasions he did manage to get in the team, however I for one believe that he was influential with his work rate and desire to do well for Stoke. Eidur? well he never left the starting blocks, so a bit of a non-runner and won't be missed. Pennant and JC- the only signings in this window will help in maintaining our status in the Prem, and with Ric staying it is good to know that we still have a player, who at the blink of an eye can turn a game in our favour. As for improving and moving forward? That is now in the hands of the management and the team who grace the famous red and white stripes. It is up to us now as supporters to get behind them for the remainder of the season and hope we can build on the position that a mere few years ago we would only dream of achieving. So 'Gooooaaaaarn Stoke! UTP! and KTF. Oh something else I learned....This Boxxy girl is a nutter!

On reflection it's not been a bad window for us.
We brought in Carew and Pennant.
We lost Gudjohnsen (high wages) and Tuncay (high wages, bit-part player).
We kept the likes of Bego, Huth, Ryan.
I'm as disappointed as everyone we didn't strengthen - I think Bradley and Makoun will be quality at Villa, but they are untested in the Prem and I understand Pulis not going for them (if I don't necessarily agree).
I hope the club takes the time to assess it's transfer policy and the beginning of a new plan - I do think we'll stay up, there wasn't a great deal of quality signed around us (Sessegnon is a good signing albeit at Sunderland), and there's no guarantees foreigners settle.
Stay proud, stay Stoke and i'm sure we'll be a lot stronger in the summer.

So frustrating that everything is always left until the last minute.

Sorry about the lack of new signings, the club did try to bring players in,could not agree terms with a couple,a few others did not want to come to stoke City. and why? Would you come, run round like headless chickens and play hoof ball. Certainly no decent midfielder will come here.

Maybe next time we wont fanny about all month and try to get our new players in before we move our unwanted players out??
Better to have too many than not enough.
So carew has replaced eider? Well about right as neither have scored.
And pennant replaced tuncay? Well i actually like pennant, BUT hes done nothing close to what tuncay has done. Pennant hasnt snlooked like scoring, let alone score recently like tuncs. Infact pennant hasnt even played like tuncay has recently! And he hasnt changed a game...even like tuncays superb back heel against Man City to enable ethers to score at the death!!
So all in all.....a crap window where Pulis & his style of play have failed to attract the better players we need to progress. And if its been down to money, then paying the likes of Tonge, Soares, Diao, Davies, Aris etc has all been a TP waste of money!! (and if anyone says weve got Diao because of his African connections as hes well respected....well it hasnt got us any players over the last 3 or 4 windows has it!!!!!!)
And for those of you who will say 'ffs we are 10th'... Take a look at the 15 or so ex-Prem teams now in the 3 divisions who didnt continue to upgrade their players, didnt progress...
We are reverting to hoofball. We could as easily drop just like anyone else without the quality we need

Could have been worse. The side is no stronger or weaker than it was 24 hours ago and the wage bill had been reduced substantially, EG and Tunny were expensive bit part players. I look forward to the summer transfer market when we can hopefully strengthen rather than consolidate. The only addition I would like to see in the short term is in the management team, someone who understands the wheelings and dealings system abroad, but all in all I tip my cap to Coates and Pullis. I would rather wait than panic buy, stick to the plan and improve it, we're getting established in this league don't get impatient.

Finally some sense being written as opposed to all this hyperactive, Daveviews obsessed, narrow minded, more-pent-up-anger-than-a-teenager-after-realising-it's-not-his-Dad's-fault-that-he-is-crap-at-maths, rubbish. The transfer window is ludicrous and whilst Stoke undoubtedly would have LIKED to strengthen the squad, the money being thrown about on transfers and wages was crazy. We've remainded competitive this season and have relatively comfortably risen to 10th in the table. If we finish above 12th, it will be another good season. Get a grip on yourselves and stop day-dreaming that just because we've spent two and a half years in the top flight, we've become a wealthier version of Everton overnight. TP has said again and again that the club are aiming to make it 4 season in a row in the top flight. That can easily still happen. So, wait for the summer and see what that brings. And for crying out loud, consider yourselves fortunate that we haven't got a chairman who will happily screw up the structure of the club just to gamble on some foreign 'superstar'.
