If we went up to the Premiership? ??? Vale are still a football team and still have a loyal following as do any other teams, they have their supporters. Yes I agree that many of these are dickheads but theres always a few at every team If we win promotion and Vale seem doomed to be playing League 2 Football next year, would you feel sorry for them? If we make the bigtime, it seems Vale will be forgot about and become more or less non existent anymore. And in League 2, with no money and no support, administration maybe ??? Just looking for opinions I dont hate the Vale as much as others on here although I still dislike them quite a lot But every team has there supporters and I feel it would be a shame to see Vale go forever and be forgotten about Opinions?

I don't hold with this if you love Stoke you must hate Vale standpoint.
I'd rather Vale won than any other team bar Stoke

It's not something that I'm particularly excited about, but seeing as they had their laughs when they were in Div 1 and us in Div 2 I wouldn't begrudge being 3 leagues above them.

I won't shed any tears over their relegation, but I wouldn't like to see them disappear altogether.
I've never hated them in the way that many Stokies do, but to see us restored to the penthouse while they languish in the basement will give me enormous satisfaction, if only for the amount of shit we had to put up with from them during the 90s.

I'd definitely be sad. So long as we beat them comfortably every time we play them and finish above them in the league then I always like to see the Vale do well.
We should be proud that we are a city of two clubs.

I agree Homzy, we are a city of two clubs, which is how it should stay. The reason I started this thread is to point that out, however big the rivalry, one should simply not be forgotten about whilst the other could be making it bigtime. Sad to see them down, lets hope promotion for them next season and their fans stick with them

Would hate to see them go out of business, nobody deserves to have that happen to them.
Will have a cheeky snigger at their relegation though. Do you think they'll be sad if we don't go up?

I've got a good few Vale supporting friends and despite the usual local banter, I've got far more respect for them than all the glory hunting scummers I have to put up with.
Would be quite happy if they got promotion next season... doubt that they will though.

To be honest I don't mind what Vale what they do. I don't really like them at all i know alot of their fans and hate them. All i care about is us, The Mighty Potters.

I personally don't like vale at all, ive grown up not liking vale, and seeing them as our rivals, so it just comes naturally for me to celebrate when fail lose.
I don't live in stoke nor have vale friends or relatives, so from some peoples perspectives i can understand why they would have liked to see the vale survive the drop, if they have friends or family who support the vale.
If they were 2nd in the championship and we were going down to League 2 like them, believe me they would love it, so it works both ways for me, i'm glad to see fail go down.
Whether vale can put together a side that can bounce-back next season remains to be seen, but in my opinion i can see them finishing mid-table at best next season in League 2.

They laughed their arses off when we were in the shitter and now it's our turn to laugh at them. It's what football rivalry is all about. What goes around and all that...
We often define ourselves as much by the teams we hate as those we love and I really do hate the Vale.
Please don't misunderstand this "hate" though. I don't want them to go out of business, nor any harm to come to their supporters. I just want them to lose every game they play.
The worse they do and the better we do, the greater the likelihood in the future that local fans will choose to follow The Potters. That increases our supporter base and is good new for Stoke City.

The lowest moments I can remember involved losing to the Vale.
Going out of business would end the rivalry and I'd rather they just about stay breathing as they tumble down the divisions.

I agree with Smudge, I hate them but don't want them to go out of buisness. I just want them to lose all the time, which they do so I'm happy

good derby games (in the modern era): the 1st one,1.1 in 89
the 2.1 Stein penno home win under Lou the FA Cup defeat in the mud @ Vale same season (bad for us but a good game, imho) the 1.0 Autoglass defeat the same season when stein could have scored 7
the 2.1 win in the 1st Derby @ the Brit
thats it
all the other games, regardless of who won were utter utter wank

football has a habit of returning clubs to there rightful place, sometimes it takes years after a side has punched way above its weight, sometimes not so long, granted, there will always be exceptions due to the premier league money, and wealthy chairmen. but on the whole, u return to where u came from, we will always be top division strugglers, and promtion chasing from the division below, the vale im afraid will be returning to the basement of professional football. thats where they spent most of there history, and thats where theyre going back to......and before u all start to feel sympathy for the unwashed from burslem, i suggest u all cast your minds back to when we got relegated, they were all in absolute exstasy, if port vale's fans, were half as passionate towards the vale, as they are negative towards stoke, they wouldnt be in this mess..........so all in all, am i sad theyre relegated?.....not a bit.......like the saying says, " he who laughs last....laughs the longest.

I think you have to look at the question from the other side, do you honestly believe any Fail fans would actually care if it was us in that position. The facts are we are rivals, yes only in actual opposition when we’ve been going through bad patches but rivals all the same. I don’t want to see them disappear, that would take away a certain macabre delight in their problems and failures.
The facts are they hate us, they would be more than delighted if we failed to go up this season, in fact for some of their supporters it’s almost like their only last wish now. It’s more important to some of them than actually how Vale do, they get more enjoyment out of any perceived misery we suffer.
I for one wont be sorry that they are relegated and even better if we are promoted, for me it will bring back the real status quo of football in the Potteries, with us in the top flight and them down in the old fourth division. Then we can use them like a feeder club, everyone benefits and we can give some of our younger players experience and also show them just how fortunate they are to be at Stoke and how grateful and hard they should work to stay here.
So good luck to the Vale but they don’t like us and we them, it’s how rivalry in football works long may in continue as long as it’s done with humour.
