Pietersen looks focused lets hope he doesn't play a rash shot early on. That's always the worry with KP. If I were Johnson, i'd send a few right across KP to see how tempted he is to have a drive edit - I say that and he's out of the attack. What a great Baldrick cunning plan that was ;D

Fully agree. Test cricket is the ultimate test of a player's skill and fitness. Test cricket, in my eyes anyway, will always be (to use your words) the purest form of this wonderful game

I can see this partnership going a long way! Pietersen is being positive to the spinner and coming up the wicket (vital, as he is on his debut). The rest of attack is ok, doesn't seem that dangerous though. I just wish Johnson was bowling more wides, he could be a weapon Goaaarn England!

I agree with Atherton. The Aussies haven't been at their best so far apart from Watson who is bowling the right lines and lengths. One thing I picked up on from the first session was the lengths of the Aussie bowlers to Cook. They bowled back of a length far too often in my opinion which is what he prefers as he showed just there, it's when it's full he struggles and the Aussies haven't been consistent enough to him, in my opinion

Typical useless bastard England. Looking all rosey, one wicket and kaboom they fall like a deck of cards. Broady and Swann will save us.

I hope so, I have no faith in our batsmen to keep their wickets though.
edit-we need a big ton from Cookie, a ton from Bell and then some decent scores from Prior, Broad and Swann. 2 tons in one innings would be a dream.

Needed 350 to be competitive I fear. Need to bowl better than ever to get us back in this game as the pitch will flatten out.

Why? We always do this, when was the last time we hit 500? They're soft as shite and always have been.

Why? We always do this, when was the last time we hit 500? They're soft as shite and always have been. cook and bell both had good knocks and KP did ok, collingwood failed but hes a fighter and has made a career out of it, strauss is the best opening batsman in the world at the minute and is certainly not a bottler, players like swann and broad arnt speicialist batsman so its unfair to knock them for getting a low score

We hit 260, which is well below par, as ever we got some starts but no one converted them to the big runs and that's what needs to happen. And I aren't blaming Swann and Broad, in fact in the past year their form with the bat has turned some ugly looking scorecards into respectable ones. The top order for me haven't got the will power for big runs. And if one of them does, the rest get out for bugger all.
