Go live in Manila or Indonesia. There is no welfare system in place worthy of mention. It's lovely. Honest. It's really civilised.

And what happens to people in these places who can't be bothered to get out and find work, food or water for themselves or their kids? Does somebody come along everyday and bring them what they need?

Most of these problem families would and do struggle to get into full time employment.
Even if a job was offered , it is most likely to be the minimum wage. No married man can survive with two kids on this amount of money.

This is the media manipulating people somewhere in the middle of the pile to attack and demonise the weakest 5% of society and blame them for problems they're too feeble to cause. When there's been positive social change in the past to level up opportunities and life chances, it's come from people believing they had a common interest. The red top right wing press has ALWAYS, ALWAYS existed to divide ordinary working people and make them attack and mistrust each other.

It'll soon be a free for all where the poorest of society have to scrap it out on £ 4.20 an hour.! Can you remember the Tories saying that the minmimum wage would cost us thousands of jobs...the same was said about banning Fox Hunting..!!! Carry on Albert..

No married man can survive with two kids on this amount of money. That is the whole point. They choose not to work and if they can't support kids then they souldnt have them and expect me and you to pay for them!!!!!!!! I really cannot believe the amount of people that find it acceptable to produce kids and let the state pick up the bill, that it is acceptable to have 4, 5 or 6 babies and drag them up on handouts and freebies while setting them the example that it is a legitimate choise to live like this, while the rest of the country work long hours, budget, go without things they want to provide for their family and pay tax that gets dished up to the wasters!

Prince Charles...?
Prince Andrew..?
Prince Edward..?
Princess Anne..?
Fergie...?
Camilla..?

But rmb, Blair's New Labour was as far right as Thatcher, Blair was governing in the interests of the City and the middle classes, I don't think any sane Leftie's going to defend any of that, I'm sure as hell not.

I am not a moron who needs to aquire opinions from the tabloid rags. I am capable of forming an opinion from my own experiance and from the people i have encountered in life. Everytime somebody dares to raise the benefit issue in this country the age old line of 'media witch hunt' gets trotted out but it is fucking bollocks. Go and stand in a job centre and watch the stream of wasters go in, sign on and piss off without even looking at the jobs available. Go to your local wetherspoons and see all the 'working class' heros complaining about how little booze they can get for their dole now. Come to my work and listen to the tales from the 35 and 40 year old grans bragging about what their never been employed kids get each week and how its pointless them going to work for the same amount of money. It's got to the point where i have sod all to do with a member of my own family because it pisses me off so much seeing what they get for nothing while me and my wife have to work hard to make a comfortable life for our daughter, so don't tell me im just spouting what i have read in a newspaper because that is just a shit line used by those who do not want to accept that we are being taken for a ride by these fucking lazy bastards!!!

In opposition you oppose...In government you 'do'.
Not in a thousand million years was Blair ''as far right as Thatcher''....

Yorkshire, what I was having a go at was the way you said an entire generation, that's just not true. People from the current generation of 20 year olds, and 35 year olds, still get into Oxbridge, do exciting, creative and useful things with their lives, it's NOT a crap generation. You're talking about the weakest and most useless members of that generation, who either don\t have skills anyone wants or can't be arsed to acquire them. People like that are always going to be with us frankly but you can't write off a whole generation because it happens to contain people with nothing better to do than fiddle the benefits system. Those people are not why we have a recession, I agree many have got away with stuff they shouldn't, but penalising them is going to do less than fuck all to solve the causes of the recession and the reason S-o-T has become an even poorer relation than it always was.

Not in a thousand million years was Blair ''as far right as Thatcher''.... He and Brown gave the Bank of England and the City more freedom from state control than the Tories ever did, ultimately with dire results.

Tax payers payed 8 billion to help out the banks.....Welfare costs a whopping 85-90 BILLION.....Tough times are coming and I think Labour are glad the Con/Dems are in power.

What are the Dire results...? Have you forgotten the Boom and Bust >? But it was a boom based on (admittedly global) credit running out of control and a property hyperinflation bubble. How much manufacturing did we lose in the time? (I'm not saying New Labour didn't do some good things but imho they broke way more than they fixed and I still feel personally betrayed by Blair, I always thought he was a smarmy bugger but in 1997 I thought he was Labour at heart)

A minute fraction of what was lost under the Conservatives.!
The Mines.
The Potbanks.
The Utility Industries.
The Car Industry...
