I think our defence does need reminding that they've not kept many clean sheets of late.... and replacements are in the wings. Dropping our captain is not the answer though!

Even a poor form Ryan is up to it at this level. But by his stellar form last season he is a long way from that and at his age thats a worry. Its right he hasn't been the same player since arsenal. Not sure how he turns around his form. Not sure dropping him will help, but he is way down the pecking order with Fabio and needs top performances in big games to impress again. He wa so close to a cap but seems a long way off now. Hope it changes for him and us.

He hasn't been the player since Wenger opened his gob. But dropping him would be silly. He needs support.

Arsenal - It certainly does seem to be in his head.

Nobody is undroppable of course but at this stage to drop Shawcy wouldn't be right.

since hes been made captain his form, his reading of the game, and his overall positioning has been poor,we need a leader as captian

He's not been poor, but not up to his best either. Maybe Higgy deserves a chance as well?

He's not at his best right now, but I certainly wouldn't drop him.....yet.
Noboby should be guaranteed a first team place and he needs to show some improvement, but he's nowhere near as bad as some people are making out on here.

It's Huth and Collins that need dropping. I can't believe we're still dicking around with these two at full-back, they're a liability in those positions.
Wilko Abdy Ryan Higgy
Please!

I'd also make Higgy the captain - I'm sure we'd see Ryan's game get back to normal pretty soon as a result.

From the Ramsey incident last season, hesitant and sometimes slow to get a tackle in he doesn’t even seem to be winning that many headers at the moment. Is it time to give him some time on the bench and switch Huth into the centre?

Agree with playing Huth at CB, but personally would drop Faye, and make Huth Captain.
Faye still takes to many chances in my book, but that's only my opinion.
Begovic
Wilko Huth Shawcross Collins
Pennant Wilson Whitehead Ethers
Fuller
Jones
That would be my 1st 11 v Castle.

Where's this garbage suddenly come from? I quite agree. A silly clumsy foul against Chelsea and a desperation to move Huth away from the full-back position, I think. In what way was Ryan a liability yesterday? There's a fair amount of clowning around going on at the back where we decide to put ourselves under ridiculous amounts of pressure before smacking the ball forwards rather than just smacking the ball forwards in the vague direction of one of our players, but all of our defenders are at fault in that respect, not just Ryan. Agree with you MD, those saying Ryan is poor must have been watching a different game to me.

I very rarely comment on Stoke City player related football threads!
And the title of this post explains why!
Perhaps whilst we're at it - we could sack Pulis, loan out Etherington and send Fuller on a free transfer to the Vale!
I really cannot believe that anybody could contemplate dropping Shawcross at the moment!
Has it crossed anybody's mind that he is more comfortable alongside and has more confidence in Huth as his central defensive partner! A feeling which most of this board agreed with him on at the start of the season.
There are some problems in defence at the moment which are primarily caused by playing one of our best central defenders at right back and another one at left back.
That has an impact across the back four.

If you look carefully there's a question mark which implies that the thread initiator is asking a question, eg; should Pulis consider dropping Shawcross?
