Can't believe so many folk want Delap to start?! I thought we all wanted to change the system? It's only the sane ones who want him to start. Only a lunatic would want to change the system

Hopefully Wilson will become an excellent signing but as it stands Rory should be number one CM

Martin Spinks' 'probable team' in the Sentinel, for what it's worth, is :
Sorensen Huth-Faye-Shawcross-Collins Walters-Whelan-Whitehead-Etherington Gudjohnsen-Jones
Whelan over Wilson or Delap would certainly raise a few eyebrows

I'd certainly pick rory over whelan. If Rory does play it'll be his 300th premier league appearance.

Just got this funny feeling Delap and Whitehead to start in the middle. Wilson on from the bench later on.
I know it doesnt make sense, but thats often the TP way.

I'd like to see Wilson and Delap in the middle, Whitehead at right back with Robert Huth moved inside to his best position, partnering Ryan. I think Deano has only played one game at right back for us and had a stormer.

What is the point of signing players who are good in the air, to abandon our most potent aerial weapon? Taken from the Sunderland messageboard ... "Putting Kenwyne on the end of Delap's throws, will be handing Stoke a direct ticket into Europe!"

Paul Scholes isn't quick enough, it doesn't stop him from doing a good job there! Delap is decievingly quick, this 'his legs have gone' is a load of bollox to me. In center mid he is still a very good player Totally different players mate, thats all I'm going to say.

Of course, he's Mr Stoke.
300th PL appearance - guaranteed to set up the winning goal.
Anyone who slags off Rory should really take a good look at themselves.

Delap HAS to start in my view...for the Rory special if nothing else. Kenwyne Jones is incredible in the air and actually won most of them (defending) when we played Sunderland last season. This is in my view quite possibly one of the biggest games since promotion and we cannot afford to mess around trying too many new things. The throw will cause pressure we KNOW this...and with Jones in the box it would seem silly not to utilise this weapon (lets face it he may only have another season left in him). Exactly, couldn't have put it better. As long as he's in his best position at centre mid I would have definitely have him on for the throw, Villa may be a bit weak in defence as Collins if he plays cannot possibly be 100% up for an aerial battle so soon after a fractured cheekbone.

I wouldn't be dissapointed should delap start in the middle tonight.
He's nowhere near good enough to be playing out wide but when used as a central midfielder he's been as effective as Whitehead or whelan.
My only gripe will be if we use him out on the right and use Walters up front as opposed to out right when we now have several options available both on the right (Walters/Pennant/Tuncay) and up front (Jones/Fuller/Tuncay/Eidur/Walters).
I don'ty think even TP would do that though.
I'd like to see Wilson used as we need a central midfielder who can pass. This is why we signed him. He's had a pre-season, he's played regular football for 12 months-get him in the team and get him settled into our team.

Yes I do. He's a more intelligent player than Whitehead, more consistent than Whelan and he makes a damn good partner for whoever plays alongside him. It's no coincidence that both Whelan and Whitehead's best performances in the middle have come alongside Delap. It's worth trying him out with Wilson, definitely. Being hung out to dry on the right wing does not suddenly make you 'past it' in your natural position. I'd agree with this, Delap get's a raw deal sometimes on here. I would play him and Whitehead tonight.
