When your mobility goes, it becomes nearly impossible to perform in our tactics, as Diao has proved. It requires high-intensity running for 90 minutes, pressing and harrying opponents, and it just doesn't look like Rory can keep up with the play any more. Unlike a Gary Speed (or a Paul Scholes etc), I don't think Delap has enough extra in his game to make up for his dwindling athleticism, and he should be used - as others have said - as an impact sub.
This isn't a reflection on Rory the player, just Rory the athlete.

He was poor today but at Wolves I thought he played better than both Whitehead and Whelan.
Focusing on just todays performance I thought Huth was the weak link, yes he made two last ditch tackles but he was constantly out of position, same for Collins. One more chance Huthy then we should let Wilko have a bash.

Got to agree with most. He was poor at Wolves last week (looking knackered from the start). When he moved into the centre today there was one point when Jenas had the ball deep in his own half faced with Rory, he went around him and away from his like he was a statue.
He's been a superb player (not just the throw-ins) but he needs to be out the side now. If only we had some midfield options!

I think Rory should be a sub and used only when we are desperate and need his throw ins.
Whelan was by far the worst today. Utterly hopeless.

He looked shattered today, but then if you spent the majority of the game in a right wing position to which you're completely unsuited you'd be a bit out of sorts.
Give him a run in the team in the middle and he's still our best central midfielder, instead of hanging him out to dry on the right. Whitehead and Whelan barely perform when played alongside each other, but almost always perform when played with Delap. That's not a coincidence. Delap and Whelan in the middle next week, hopefully, with Walters on the right and Kenwyne up front.
