He can't be defended on that performance, he was fucking terrible. Abdy Faye looked out of his depth too.
Huth in the middle with Shawcross, Wilko right and Higgy left.
Midfield, Walters right, Ethers left but god knows about the centre cause Whelan was arse too.

I'd have to see him consistently fail in central midfield before writing him off. Playing him on the right is hanging him out to dry. It's a bit like judging Fuller if you were playing him at left-back. I'm still not convinced that he isn't our best central midfielder, which isn't saying much admittedly. +1 Having said that, I won't lose a wink of sleep if all three of Etherington's midfield counterparts have been replaced come September 1st.

Even in central midfield it's not good enough. He'll run for 90 minutes but the whole side is slow as fuck. I think it was Lennon that left Whelan for dead in our own half and Whelan was just nowhere.
I wasn't impressed with Spurs either. They did fuck all apart from pretend they are now experienced Europeon's and pass it along the back four for 20 minutes at a time. The only thing that worked for them, and that they used well was something we just haven't got. WIDTH. Other than that Spurs offered jack shit.
Harry knew that if you played the ball behind any of our back and told Lennon or Bale to get after it they would fly past us. Huth must be the slowest player in the prem and really needs to get in at Centre Half alongside Ryan.

We need more pace than Delap has.

If it wasn't for his throw, surely he wouldn't be in the side? Time to order that picture of a Spitfire, I reckon.

His place now is on the bench. In the centre he isn't a bad player, but playing him out wide is suicide.

Anybody that defends Rory today after that performance obviously wasn't at the game and his demise is very alarming.

I felt sorry for him as he was so bad. Surely not his fault on the right wing but he was no better in the middle. It is like we are playing with 10 men. The throws were also loopy ones rather than the more dangerous flat ones. I would use him sparingly from now on against the odd vulnerable team and only at home

its was a bit embarrasing for Rory at times today. it was bad when he went to close down Jenas i think it was, & jenas just shifted the ball slightlyand waltzed past him like he wasnt there. yeah he can run all day but if he's only running about 3mph then its no good. The plack of pace of our centre midfield players is shocking. They cant close down people quick enough & therefore they keep dropping deeper. Whelan and Whitehead are that deep sometimes they both need a snorkel. Someone needs tell then to stop treading on Abdoulaye's and Shawcrosses toes!!

Yes mate, you are undeniably correct in your initial thread statement, sad but true.
After today, I am officially removing the word "leggy" from my vocabulary and replacing it with the word "rory".
e.g.
1. That horse was slow as fuck, he looked a bit "rory" to me.
2. Three games in a week and our defense looked a bit "rory"
Oh and yes, I know what hes done for our club, what a massive impact he has had cannot be denied. But we have to move on, the game is passing him by and quite frankly its embarrasing at times. I also dont hold him purely to blame for our midfield performance, its just that this is his thread, I will get onto Whelan in a bit.

I'm sorry to say it, but Rory looks like he's finished at this level. I think the question marks were there last season about Rory but it now seems his legs have completely gone. We were playing with 10 men in the first half with Delap completely unable to make an impression. It got no better in the second, even after he was moved into his favoured centre-mid position. He looked sluggish on and off the ball, and seemed unable to keep up with play. In fact I think the only reason he stayed on the pitch for as long as he did was for the throw-in, and I don't think we can afford to carry him on the pitch any longer for that reason alone. We've again got the obligatory thread slamming Whelan and others in criticism of Whitehead, but if Delap is the alternative we're in massive, massive trouble. Fingers crossed we can get Gibson (or another) in on loan before Chelsea! sush, there's some on here who think he's in the team for more than his throwing ability.

Trouble is with Tone, the something is obvious and 26,000 people can see something, the more Tone digs in and plays them.
We'll all have to start cheering and shouting the names of our fantastic midfield. He might do something about it then?

his role has now got to be just for the throw-in's when we are a goal down with 20 mins to go & where most of the play is in the opponents half.

and some moan about lawrence having no pace. At least lennie can get a cross over. Each time Delap had the ball on the wing, he would play for a throw-in. Thanks Rory, but your time is up

I'm with Fullermagic on this one- ignoring his performance as a right winger, Delap's played 30 minutes of poor football in the middle today.
For the majority of last season he was never anything less than decent, so why is everyone so quick to leap to such a definite conclusion, based on such little evidence?
Rory may be 34, but Gary Speed (for example) went on to play until he was about 38 in the top flight...I'd need to see at least 3 or 4 games where Delap looks off-the-pace to be sure that it's a case of age catching up with him and not just an uncharacteristic below-par performance.
Even when he was a bit younger, Rory's never really had much pace, so why Pulis even considers playing him out wide is beyond me. It's like asking Jeff Capes to give-up pulling trucks with his teeth, and ballet dance instead...utterly ludicrous.
There's a day when every player jumps the shark and embarks on a gradual but irreversible decline, and it might be that Rory has reached that point. It'd be a shame to write him off yet though.

Couldn't agree more with this post, people like him and sidibe have done well for the club, but in order to us to push on and move forward we need to offload players like these and the fact tuncay still doesn't get a game is a disgrace, he's the most skillful player at this club and today yet again proved this.

He simply cannot ever play on the wing again as he was truly woeful and contributed nothing there, making it very predictable for spurs who knew everything was coming from the left.
He might be better in the middle, but when he did move there today he was still very poor and he must not continue to be 1 of Pulis' favourites

he only took what?? 3/4 throw ins today so we cant say he was playing because of the throw, so pulis obviously sees something in him...he needs to be in the centre!!!!!!
