hahaha that's an amazing headline
british is pretty much the american word for english (like us, they don't really give much of a shit about scotland and wales). we call them yanks, which if you do your research, only constitutes to a minority of their population. potato tomato. get over it

" It was the second shot heard 'round the world. In true revolutionary style, the underdog Americans came from behind and blasted the powerful Brits to a nail-biting 1-1 draw yesterday in one of the all-time great World Cup soccer battles. Armies of Yankee revelers across the city celebrated their beloved longshot team as they took on their redcoat rivals. " American sports journalism at its best...

Actually it's quite clever. Sadly though, its relevance is going to be misunderstood on both sides of the Atlantic. Here's the story behind the headline. www.boston.com/movies/display?id=12500&display=moviefrom the article: In fact, "Harvard Beats Yale 29-29" comes from the most famous headline in the history of Harvard's undergraduate newspaper the Crimson. That headline refers to what remains the most famous football game in Ivy League history. It occurred 40 years ago this Sunday, when Harvard made such a jaw-dropping comeback - scoring 16 points in the final 42 seconds against a much superior Yale team - that it seemed like victory every way but numerically.

Remember in the late 60's when stoke went to usa for pre season friendlies, they were at a baseball match and the yank interviewing maurice setters asked do you have anything like this in the uk maurice, setters said yes we have rounders but the women play it.

at least we burned down the white house when we left the colonie. stick to rounders and netball yanks Not strictly true my friend. The British burnt down the White House in the 1812-1814 war when the Americans had an eye for annexing Canada. Afterwards the building was painted white to disguise the burning! The war of Independence was 1776-1783(?).

For god's sake don't bring a note of common sense and intellect to this thread; I'm SO enjoying all the Stokies demonstrating how thick they are by deriding the USA as stupid. Many classic examples of failure to engage brain before uttering, coupled with the lazy adherence to false stereotypes. Then people wonder why this city needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century. (Let's see how many of them think I got that wrong as well)
