I live in the Cincinnati suburbs which is a 5 hour drive from Chicago. We usually head that way at Thanksgiving (dependent on the weather). It is a great city. Easy to get around. Much cleaner than NYC. The reason we started going is so my 3 girls could go to the 'American Girl' shop. Thankfully they've grown out of that... My next door neighbour from over here is in Cincinnati at the moment, she's been over a couple of times, she does something like IT projects and system integration. Poor bugger. It's f'ing freezing at the moment!

Road trip from San Francisco to San Diego via Yosemite, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Vegas and Palm Springs. Going mid May so hope weather not too hot. Been to all those places. Yosemite is breathtaking. Used it for a stop when driving Vegas to San Fran. Had heard of it but really didn't know what to expect. Did the Grand Canyon on the same trip. Yosemite impressed me far more.

Got a week in Keswick booked in Feb and 2 weeks up there in November. Want to try another American adventure this year - fly into Huston and jump off to 3 or 4 places from there or stay east and look at a couple of new places but end up in Chicago again. We walked in a lovely pub in Keswick a few years ago and when at the bar ordering a beer a local guy turned to me and said there’s no doubt you’re from Stoke, turned out he visits Stoke to visit family in Sneyd Green and I know his family 🤣 Small world

You must be afflicted with the accent, it's inoffensive enough but it doesn't half make us sound gormless even if we aren't.

Started looking into South Africa, any one been or have any tips? Got married in Cape Town, been on safari there near Port Elizabeth. Get your people to arrange a meeting with my people and I'll brief you. Honey Badger's will fuck you up though. Mentioned below my daughter’s going with her boyfriend along with 5 others. Air BB booked but it mentioned for safety they have steel shutters on the property, obviously depending where you’re stopping but in general is it a safe place??

I got lucky and a friend of my missus' showed us around. We stayed at The Mount Nelson so they gave us a Merc and driver to anywhere we wanted and we just had to bell them to pick us up. Avoid the black taxis (MPVs the locals use as public transport). We turned up and I kid you not a 200 yard driveway to the hotel was lined with police and sun machine guns 😬 President Xi was stopping in the same hotel (he was vice president then). Full of Chinese secret service too. I know a few people who've been since and they were fine, but I'd say have your wits about you and get private hire taxis everywhere.

Yes our plan is to fly to New York then travel to Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia from there. Can’t be arsed with New York to be honest, and have always wanted to go to those other 3 for something different. Boston and Philadelphia are on my list. Just need the time really. Look to stay in River North in Chicago. Slightly out of the main centre, some great bars and restaurants around there too. Short walk across the river into town. I liked Boston but truthfully, I much preferred Salem, which isn’t that far away. It’s chaos around Halloween but beyond that, it’s just a beautiful, little New England town on the water. I’ve often felt like Philadelphia is a Manchester of the US. Great city to go out in and lots of history in the day.

I don't like to travel these days. That’s a shame buddy, why’s that? As for us, we’re going to wait until the baby hits 6 months then bring him to the UK to meet my side of his family. Apparently, if you want to travel with a little one, doing it before one year is the best time (they’re mostly asleep). Crime War Diseases Poverty Eartquakes, deserts Where is there left to go? Actually, I think I have appreciated travelling less in life than the average man. I see it as work. Why work in my spare time? I can't say I'm particularly interested in history or other cultures.

Flash bastard! cheap deals off season on a Sunday and Monday evening. I stayed in the Crowne Plaza in Harrogate once on a Sunday and Monday nights for £55 a night, always cheaper and tends to be quieter once the weekend chavs have gone home

Bar Vancouver my favourite North American city. I much prefer it to NYC. Have to make the effort to get there but it's well worth it in my opinion. I'm desperate to get back there this year or next. Make sure to do the Architecture River Cruise, great way of learning about the place. It's more historic than people credit it. Actually founded by a black fur trapper from Haiti. This is a good read if you're into that stuff: The Devil In The White City amzn.eu/d/9Qm4mXqYes our plan is to fly to New York then travel to Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia from there. Can’t be arsed with New York to be honest, and have always wanted to go to those other 3 for something different. Boston is one my all time favourite cities in the world, the food at Quincy Market is outstanding, still had the best cheeseburger of my life in that place, cheese and fat dripped down my arm while i ate it now remind me again why i have high blood pressure! all joking aside its a marvellous part of the world and venure a bit further out into New Hampshire and its lovely

My lad and his wife are there in August and are then driving up to Maine for a few days as well.

Last time I was in Chicago were making a film in our hotel and some of it was out of bounds...can't believe how long ago it was...The Fugitive. Sadly never got to see anything interesting or see the Fordster himself . Think they were using the kitchen and a conference room for the end scenes.

Scarily similar to many UK cities though. Maybe that's why I like it. Nashville is 2nd. Just like the mood of the place and the country stuff.
