Players can like and dislike a manager for all sorts of reasons. Thats Claridge's thoughts on Tone. Fair enough.

It's ridiculous to argue about whether Claridge is "right" or not because it's horses for courses.
One of Stoke's true, undeniable strengths in our two seasons in the Prem has been team spirit, and Tone has built a squad of players who are happy to do things his way and who engender togetherness. I guess Claridge, for one reson or another, was the kind of player who didn't fit into that mould. I, for one, can live with that.

Agree Potterlog. There's been ex shit players scathing about Alex Ferguson's methods. I doubt it bothers him too much.

Claridge the Manager I seem to recall ran into problems because players didn't like his methods. How much football is actually this beautiful game of passing and movement - very little. As Fulham show, good organisation goes along way. If you have Messi, Xavi and Iniesta then its different but as West Brom, Burnley and others show, without the best players its foolhardy to try and be too clever. As yet Stoke can't get the players like Parker or Bentley or Jenas that might allow us to change gradually, so we have to make do. Stoke, Wolves, Blackburn are punching about their weight by keeping it simple I am off to Chelsea on Sunday much better than going to Brentford

Sounds like sour grapes. Although there will be more that don't like Puli's approach, similarily there will be plenty that do like his approach. That's life, his approach is working so who can argue?

I remember listening to an interview Vince Overson gave to Radio Stoke. When asked if Lou Macari was well liked in the dressing room he replied "Look, you don't have to LIKE someone to respect them and give your best for them". Rather suggests Lou and Vince weren't bussom buddies but Boy did Vince give his all for Lou's team.
Incidentally, I have it on very good authority that Carragher and Gerrard have reached the point where they honestly believe that their manager has totally lost the plot. They won't say it in public obviously but Liverpool fans know it's true and many believe both will leave if Rafa is still there next season.

Anyone who listens to the podcast will know that warm words for Lou from that highly successful team of over-achievers are very hard to come by.

I know I'm going to seem really thick but what is the podcast and how do you listen to it? There's normally a link stuck at the top of the board amongst the sticky threads for something called 'Stoke City etc', you just open that thread and you just have to click on the link that's posted. There isn't one up there at the minute, I think it was unstuck yesterday.

Claridge is an astute pundit and spot on. Hello hudsonGOB. How ironic that your new username is actually true as I believe in Pulis, we have our modern day Waddo. How sad that you cannot bathe in our most successful period to date. Idiot. SGT

Same as John McGovern said he'd never ever want to go for a drink With Cloughie but he'd walk over the Sahara desert to work with him.

It does make you think what TP means by taking the club to the next level? Perhaps, we will buy players who can hoof the ball from our penalty spot and hit the other team's corner flag 99 times out of 100? Perhaps, the new players will run two marathons everyday instead of one?
