OK, call me deluded (most people do) but I was thinking about the possiblity of getting one marquee signing over the summer.
There is a certain chap at Real Madrid (who?!) called Guti, who wants one crack at English football before retirement.
He will be approaching 34 once the season gets under way but, taking a leaf out of the successful Bolton side under Allardyce, he could be our Djorkaeff/Okocha.
We might have the slightly small problem of fitting his wages into our structure but I think we could do alot worse for twelve months. If we could attract a player of his calibre (easier said than done) then others throughout Europe would sit up and take notice.
Bolton signed many ageing stars during that period (including Hierro and Les Ferdinand) but also attracted a certain Nicolas Anelka. I suppose Darren Bent would be our version of Anelka- a player we were unable to tempt last summer.
With a player such as Guti in our ranks, then maybe he could have been swayed?
Not only would Guti be a tempting carrot to potential signings, but he is a tremendous player in his own right. He would add a magnificently creative dimension to our midfield, and a wealth of continental experience to the dressing room.
I'm sure I am pissing in the wind, but Guti would be amazing.

It's an idea, an in form Guti would rule our midfield. BUT he is SO damn volatile attitude wise. He isn't worth risking for that reason imo.

He isn't really a Pulis style midfielder, is he? I'm not denying he's a good player, but he's more of a Lee Hendrie than a Glenn Whelan. Makelele anyone?

Makelele anyone? Or Sidibe's mate Mahamadou Diarra, also at Real.

If Guti can fill in at centre half or left back then he's in!! No only kidding, he would be a cracking signing for us as we are crying out for someone to put their foot on the ball and boss the midfield. We already have the runners round about him who can do the workrate.

I think he might go for O'Hara.
Genuine box to box goal scoring midfielder. Tony has played that before with Salif in his first spell holding, and Daryl Russell bombing up and down.
O'Hara's young, great at set pieces and reasonably creative. And he seems to have said too much publicly, which may make him surplus to rquirements with Tony's best mate.
Battersea Dogs home, Jamie?

Suppose Paul Scoles was going to be that signing last season..... getting them to sign? Dangle a big carrot (big wages)? Not really the Stoke way

Taken from Wiki Mahamadou Diarra; In October 2008, while playing an international fixture against Chad, Diarra was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his knee. He was rested for a month and made another appearance in late November, but was forced to undergo surgery after he aggravated his knee once more. He was ruled out for the rest of the season due to his injury. Thats it he'll be signed in the summer

Guti would be ace but under Pulis he'd be subdued and would be useless for us imo. Unless TP allowed him to express himself and would he? Probably not.

If we sign Guti, I will take a spatula from the kitchen, insert it into my rectum, and keep it there for fourteen days.

Knowlesey son I would snap Guti up regardless his age, he would be nothing short of a cracking signing. Though to be honest I wouldn't be to disappointed with Paul Scholes, that way least we'd have one decent Scholes at the club

If there's one poster on here I trust above any other, it' probably Knowlesy, purely because his life is one massive football-following shift.
This is probably the first time I've ever disagreed with him about anything.
I can see him wanted to add England to his final CV, but I'm sure proper "midfield" side like Spurs would snap him up.

We need the man. He's tailor made for Stoke and would quickly become a legend in my opinion.
Sign him up Tony or I will stalk you until you do ;D

Makelele anyone? Or Sidibe's mate Mahamadou Diarra, also at Real. I'd imagine Diarra is the type of player Pulis has a "special" dream about. If there was any chance of us buying him, then we would do it. Guti is a very good shout, I reckon he might try it out too unless 'Arry comes along and offers him the world whilst telling him to wait for the call from Spurs...until deadline day.

So that's sorted then, Guti for Stoke! I'm going to the club shop to get number 14 on my back. Oh wait, Pugh's already got that number. The deal is off As for Diarra- he would be a class acquisition.

If we are to mae a big signing this summer i could see it being Jones. He is out of favour at Sunderland at the min and would be looking to move in the summer. I doubt Liverpool will have the resources to sign him and Spurs are top heavy on strikers and they were the 2 teams linked with him. We have a good relationship with sunderland and have half our team signed from them, that and TP is a huge fan of Jones do over £10M on him in the summer will be the marque signing IMO. That said Diarra would be a sensational signing as he is the perfect player for our system

Saying that, it's not like we have been trying to get em in...RVN and Scholes. Remember what happened last time though, we put all our resources in those players and came up short with our actualy signings.
