Just a quick one on Diarra. He swapped shirts with Sidibe after the friendly in Austria. If memory serves me right, he looked good in red and white stripes

While I agree, I cannot see TP going down this route

Wasn't Tuncay a Marquee signing? At the very least he was a Pro Action Nevada 8 Person 3 Room Tent signing.
Whilst he's definitely a good player, it's not really worked out that well has it?

I suppose it depends on your definition of "marquee signing."
In it's purist form I suppose it's a box office player who would get us all excited. I'm not actually convinced our first XI needs that though, what it does need is about 3 or 4 really good additions that would make us a bloody excellent team.
O' Hara would be such a signing as far as I'm concerned but he would also be one that "fitted" in and wasn't clearly on £100k a week to upset the apple cart.
If we supplemented his arrival with a right winger and a new striker we'd be doing pretty bloody well I reckon.

That player was the one I had in mind mate when I mentioned a striker (although I haven't a clue as to who it may be )

OK, call me deluded (most people do) but I was thinking about the possiblity of getting one marquee signing over the summer. There is a certain chap at Real Madrid (who?!) called Guti, who wants one crack at English football before retirement. He will be approaching 34 once the season gets under way but, taking a leaf out of the successful Bolton side under Allardyce, he could be our Djorkaeff/Okocha. We might have the slightly small problem of fitting his wages into our structure but I think we could do alot worse for twelve months. If we could attract a player of his calibre (easier said than done) then others throughout Europe would sit up and take notice. Bolton signed many ageing stars during that period (including Hierro and Les Ferdinand) but also attracted a certain Nicolas Anelka. I suppose Darren Bent would be our version of Anelka- a player we were unable to tempt last summer. With a player such as Guti in our ranks, then maybe he could have been swayed? Not only would Guti be a tempting carrot to potential signings, but he is a tremendous player in his own right. He would add a magnificently creative dimension to our midfield, and a wealth of continental experience to the dressing room. I'm sure I am pissing in the wind, but Guti would be amazing. Would Guti bring Raul as well ;D

Are we going for a run of the mill marquee signing??? Or one with a bit of flair??? This one seems more Tony's style Anyone reckon he can play in the Mama role??

Guti would be ace but under Pulis he'd be subdued and would be useless for us imo. Unless TP allowed him to express himself and would he? Probably not. This. Tony has virtually no concept of a good player that doesn't work 'aaard. Hendrie was stuck out on the wing, Berger and Hoekstra were hardly used, Peter Sweeney was well ... Peter Sweeney. TP will only play Luke Chadwick-style hard workers. Fuller is the exception that proves the rule, and even he is bound into a system with Sidibe and the 'Mama role'. Big Sam is a manager who prefers direct football like TP, but that's where the similarity ends. His Bolton side included proper full-backs and flair midfielders, and his Blackburn side is the same. Michel Salgado is a weak defender, but great going forwards, and he's a regular in Big Sam's current side. David Dunn works reasonably hard, but ultimately he's in the side to orchestrate attacking moves. Neither player if available to Tone would make the starting XI. The best we can hope for Joe Ledley Real Cardiff Somehow, I think this is more likely
