Top signing to cover Leon's injury, and then Ryan's inevitable suspension- although maybe one of them will actually have to fight to partner him once all fit and free from suspension.
Nice one ,TP. Now go back to Southgate to ask for Adam Johnson!!

Can I just say how refreshing it is that every comment on here regarding the signing is positive.
If we had got Riggott 6 months ago he wouldn't have got half the response he is getting now.
Delighted with the signing. Hopefully it might encourage a few more to travel down to Loftus Road on Sunday?!

Like Cort and Shawcross, not sure he's a shouter and organiser though, is he? Probably about as good as we could possibly hope to get though. fansonline.net/middlesbrough/mb/view.php?id=186631 Riggott views on Boro MB "Chris wants to be playing football and he's been frustrated by the lack of chances in our first team," said boss Gareth Southgate. "It will be a chance for him to play for a team that's doing very well," said Southgate.
"He wants to get out and pay football and put himself in the shop window. What happens in the future remains to be seen."

Derby perspective after recent rumours. A common theme being: "Riggott is a good centre back, but we need someone who would really boss and organize the defence, and I'm not sure that he's dominant in that way." hopefully his extra quality will compensate for the perceived lack of leadership we appear to need. forums.thisis.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=4443&start=0&tstart=0

It'll be a big call to drop £1.5m, 7-goal Cort - but I think that's what'll happen when they're both fit.
I don't think Riggott's come to warm the bench, play out of position or just cover through Shawcross' ban and Cort's full recovery from his ankle knock.

I think you are right Grapey. TP likes his left and right footed combo at the back and both Ryan and Leon are right footers.
With no Higgy and Hill, and a permanently injured Matteo, we were short of a left footed centre back, so I think Riggott will be a regular with Ryan and Leon fighting it out to partner him (when both available after injury/inevitable suspension).

Interesting news... In the build up for Middlesborough v Reading (this weekend), Riggott is described as 'out with a hamstring injury' Riggott played the last of his nine appearances this season back in November because of injury. But Pulis is confident he has now overcome his fitness problems and will take a close look at him for the first time in training tomorrow.

Tony's Delight Posted on: Fri 29 Feb 2008 City boss Tony Pulis admits he is delighted to have Middlesbrough defender Chris Riggott at his disposal as the push for the Premier League hots up.
The 27-year old defender put pen to paper on a three month loan deal this afternoon, and his experience could prove invaluable according to February's Manager of the Month.
"I am absolutely delighted to have signed a player of Chris' quality," Tony told stokecityfc.com
"He is a Premier League player who has plenty of top flight experience and he will play a massive part in what we want to achieve this season.
"The fact that he lives just down the road in Derby has helped us get him in, and like I say I am very happy to have him here.
"We have some very good competition in defence now, and that is important as we approach a crucial part of the season."
The classy defender, who was touted as a possible England international just two years ago, could make his debut against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday in a game Pulis admits he is desperate to win.
"I'm hoping the players who were in the team that missed out on the play-offs at QPR last season will be particularly fired up for this one."
"I know that was one of the blackest days in my time in football. I'd love to go there and get three points to wipe away the memory of that final game of the season."

Very happy at this, Solid signing, great addition. Cort and Shawcross have been getting goals but we're still leaking goals, something thats probably been playing on TP's mind for awhile, he;s a stickler for clean sheets.

Noticed a few mentions ,on the link stokebill did for the Derby board and on the Boro board, of the fact that he's another who plays better alongside a leader - rather than actually being the organiser himself. Bit of a shame as we could've done with him being a shouter/talker/organiser-type. fansonline.net/middlesbrough/mb/view.php?id=186631forums.thisis.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=4443&start=0&tstart=0He always looks lost without someone alongside him basically telling him what to do!same with vickers who always played better with big nige bellowing instructions at him
He has done ok for us but not developed into the player I thought he could. It's fair to say he looked a lot better than he was due to having Southgate to hold his hand. Put him in with Ugo etc and our defence became a shambles.
He has no outstanding talents, and lots of weaknesses - not strong enough, too slow, poor positioning especially from set pieces, poor decision making. Thanks for the effort, but your not good enough for the prem. It's a good move for all involved. If he does well, maybe getting stoke promoted, then we should get a half decent fee for him.
He'd need someone decent next to him though. If Riggott's got a fault to his game it's his decision making. Sometimes it's very poor.
Riggott is a good centre back, but we need someone who would really boss and organize the defence, and I'm not sure that he's dominant in that way.
