Michael Owen says he will continue in football despite not being offered a new contract with Manchester United, but insists it will not be in England's second tier.
"The Championship is not an option. I'd like to think I haven't lost the ability to score goals and play at the highest level,"
Oh bollox

Some interesting bets there...retirement 15/2 and Villa 20/1. Worth a couple of shillings.

What the fuck is up with people....
Turning up noses at Michael Owen?! Unbelievable Jeff.
Certainly a lot better than Jon Walters....Owen is a realistic target.

No one will even bet on this.
Someone will have put 2 pound on meaning the odds will have been slashed as its the only activity on this market.

Pay as you go? Lives within an hour of the club. Other than England , not sure if he's played alongside any of our current players?
Maybe worth a punt - depending on who we offload

Depends on how much money he wants and IF and it's a big IF he can ever get fit again. Worth a punt though just for the profile of the club.

Well, he's stated on Sky Sports News this morning that he is fully fit and wouldn't consider Championship football. I'm sure Stoke would offer him a sensible deal, and he needs to realise at 31 he won't get offered his Man United wage. I think with the right deal, it could be a sensible bit of business. Like you say, would raise the profile of Stoke, just like signing Crouch did.

I'd love it if we signed him. Does anyone remember/have a link for that video where he was scoring past a 14year old lad and loving it? Pretty sure it was at Stoke

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/stoke_city/8116918.stmStoke City chairman Peter Coates has said that the Potters will contact Michael Owen's representatives in a bid to sign the England striker. Owen will be available on a free transfer at the end of June when his contract expires. Coates told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a phone call Tony [Pulis, Stoke manager] will make in due course. I've no doubt he's given it some thought. "Owen is a very fine player and he'll be looking to see what's available."
