Owen in Fuller out In Pulis we trust... Somebody will try and suggest thats not an improvement in a minute. A player with a magnificent scoring ratio and against a player who if he had a open goal would wait to try to beat five other players before shooting by which time it would be blocked.

I am unsure on this one - a 32 yr old striker who is injured almost permanently screams "HELL NO", but this is Michael Owen. We do not score goals and he is a master goal poacher when fit. Yes, he has lost much of his pace, but not his knack of being in the right place at the right time.
Could he have an Indian summer at Stoke, something Waddo was expert in getting from experienced old pros? Possibly, but only if we change the team's shape to suit him. He cannot play either of the forward roles in the current pulisball formation, but in a standard 4-4-2 with Crouch as his partner?
An interesting one.....................

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/stoke_city/8116918.stmStoke City chairman Peter Coates has said that the Potters will contact Michael Owen's representatives in a bid to sign the England striker. Owen will be available on a free transfer at the end of June when his contract expires. Coates told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a phone call Tony [Pulis, Stoke manager] will make in due course. I've no doubt he's given it some thought. "Owen is a very fine player and he'll be looking to see what's available." What do you mean will? I would be surprised if it hasnt already happened because somebodys got some info from someone and its right across all the bookies sites i've seen. Somebody has put a very large wedge on or more likely its already done to be confirmed on 1st July.

cracking so we offload fuller who's about the same age but some think he is past it but they're thrilled about the prospect of signing someone who has spent pretty much the entire last three years on the bench but hell, HE believes he's still Premiership standard (pretty sure Ric beleives HE is too!) smokeontrent, yes it would have been unbelievable that people didn't want him if this was still 2003 but it isn't and the ONLY think Owen has proved in the last three years is that you can guarantee that you will get no more than 6 sub appearances a season before he goes off crying because he's stubbed his toe. great player in his prime but if people still think he is then they are really really kidding themselves!!! even pay as you play he will demand a wage on a par with our first teamers and yes it will give exposure to Stoke, it will show that the ambition we have going forward is to offload players because of their age and get in players of the same age who are even more injury prone and demand a higher wage (signing Michael Owen basically means nothing to players you want to attract as his name and reputation is based on achievements from years ago and not current or even recent achievements - if you want just a big name to show people how great we are then it's no different to signing Jamie Redknapp who was a great player years ago as well, difference is that he had the dignity to retire!!) cracking thinking that one - buy a player who can't walk without breaking something, pay him shitloads but have people on here jizzing themselves because of what he did 10 years despite the fact they have NOTHING to base any ideas on that he can still cut it!!! get the feeling i'm thrilled with this possibility if we sign him then i really do think it could be time for TP to be strait jacketed off to the funny farm!

I'd have no probelm with a "pay as you play" deal - he is still a great poacher when fit. But it would have to be just that, and NOT a "must play if fit" deal.

Can't really understand why it would be a bad signing?
obviously i'd suggest that michael asks tony what the chances of getting a game over SJW are before singing anything
Crouch and Owen starting up top for the mighty potters!

"Can't really understand why it would be a bad signing" Two good reasons how it could be. Exhibit A: Eidur Gudjohnsen Exhibit B: Jonathan Woodgate. Both class players but whose best days were behind them.

got to be worth a go, especially if fuller and jones are on their way. Pay as you play, if he isnt fit, stoke dont have a huge outlay.

And have wasted a squad place We'll have plenty of space in our 25 to fit Owen in, i can see youth players making up the 25 this time. Probably have 20 pros to select from this season coming

Why don't we go for the 'oldest team age combined' award.......then at least that's one trophy we could win.

jbran
1) he WAS a natural goalscorer ten years ago 2) he hasn't had a regular spot for three years largely because he can't stay fit - he has literally got injured whilst he has been injured at times 3) he won't be coming to a club our size and expecting to be backup and will still demand a weekly wage around the size of most of our fist teamers - strangely enough i would rather the club pay a first team wage to a player who is likely to play more than 45 minutes in the whole season but that's just me i guess

Plenty of racecourses within a 60 mile radius of the Britannia Stadium:
Uttoxeter - 17 miles Wolverhampton - 34 miles Chester - 38 miles Haydock Park - 44 miles Nottingham - 52 miles Aintree - 60 miles
Nailed on if you ask me.

I agree with point 3, and there is no denying point 2 (although we have a knack of keeping players fit with a similar history)
I feel like you are guessing that he is not a natural goalscorer any more though
All i'm saying is I wouldn't turn my nose up at him as quickly as everybody else seems to be doing

I wonder if he's still such a cocky prick?

I have no idea what the negativity is about, if get him just rejoice, rejoice Because JSU - our team is old enough as it is Fulham look to be baggin a bargain in an up and coming Jordan Rhodes who may or may work but at £3.5m .... and if he does the resale value could be huge Whilst we add a 32 yr old who even with th elittle game time he had at MUFC still managed to get injured an awful lot and he would tie up significant wages with zero resale value - just like a whole bunch of our squad right now Does not scream to me building for the future

Dave you missed Bangor on Dee 37 miles. Its a great little race course and usually devoid of the usual piss heads who frequent racing these days. North Staffs/ south cheshire is a great location for race goers.
