I think he might just have learnt a little more in the environment of Borussia Dortmund...reserve team or not. It's about the culture at the big German clubs. Huddersfield hired Wagner when he was Farke predecessor and he got them promoted pronto. Lets see how long if at all Jones gets us promoted. But hey lots of fans have bought into the patience angle as and accept that Luton Town mark 2 won't be built in a day. The 'patience' angle is fair enough though, surely? Norwich actually asked their fans for patience and warned them it might get worse before it got better, even with this coach you're telling us has a radically better pedigree. Yet you're saying that shouldn't apply here? Patience is fine if we are doing everything possible to make us successful. I am still to be convinced that building a Luton Town Mark 2 is going to get us out of this league anytime soon. Jones's recruitment is obviously key and there is a huge job to be done and he won't get much help from our recruitment team so it's mainly on his shoulders. But having said that his choice of Lee Gregory looks an astute bit of business.

They don’t really have any say in tactics or transfers. Huddersfield’s latest manager was also taken from Dortmund’s reserves and he’s managed 1 win in 14 matches. I think you are underestimating the importance of what a big club environment gives to a youngish manager he will have a lot of interaction with the first team coaches. Fair point with the latest Hudders manager although to quote a well worn cliche on here...it's not his team. So it will be interesting to see how Huddersfield go next season. Sometimes a winning formula stops being a winning formula. I like Jones for lots of reasons I just wished we had a vision beyond the English leagues thats all.

I'd rather us try and do a Norwich or a Leeds rather than a Sheff Utd or Cardiff. To be honest, we should have been doing a Wolves but hey ho. Me too but for some reason the board choose not too. The club is in dire need of some additional footballing vision beyond the cosy cabal that has presided over a complete shambles for the last 2/3 years and look absolutely immovable.

Whoever bought him and McLean as wingers wants flogging and then showing a video of what pacey, man-beating wingers look like - and then flogging again Rowett, you remember him. Rowett's dream front three in a 4-3-3 was Ince Afobe and McClean. I wonder how he will respond to this question... if he ever gets another manager interview?

Christ another let give him time post! Yes I get it. Fast forward to the end of next season for a cut and paste post in the same theme. Jones is an inexperienced manager who frankly has to learn fast. Lets hope he does. Norwich is a totally different scenario. Farke learnt his management skills at Borussia Dortmund and tapped into his European contacts to come up with some serious gems for little investment, We on the other hand have appointed a manager who learnt his trade in div 1 and div 2 and will be back there for many of his new players, lets hope its a winning strategy So you’re saying a manger who’s only ever managed the reserves of a big club is more experienced than a first team manager of a lower league club? I think he might just have learnt a little more in the environment of Borussia Dortmund...reserve team or not. It's about the culture at the big German clubs. NJ is certainly a fan of Ince McClean and Clucas. I have to say I dont see much in any of them and they have been a major contributory to our lack of creativity and goals. These three are a huge part of our current attacking forwards/AM. If more than one start in August then we will not score enough goals to get us anywhere near even the playoffs. They were the problem this season surely we and Jones have learnt something about our inability to score.

Classic ince performance again today, drifts in and out of the game and rarely goes looking for the ball. we might get 30 mins of ok play from him in a game never anymore. It's not good enough for such a key position. I think Powell is a much better option as a no 10, I hope the rumours are serious.

Can someone confirm what he means by 12 ins and outs? Is that 12 In and 12 out? If so that would be a monumental sea change but unlikely to be delivered by our woeful recruitment team. Or does he mean the 12 is a combination of Ins and outs. If that is the case he has already stated that we need to trim the squad numbers which means more out than In. If this is the case a max of 4 or 5 In seems to be the case... GK LB Allen replacement Forward...... Hardly a revolution
Please help my confusion....Ta

Any news however remote that this waster will be leaving is welcome. But really is there a football club out there that has just as bad due diligence on players as SCFC?!! I am not convinced Berahino had suddenly decided he wants to play football again. His main motivation is earning the riches to fund his excess lifestyle and child maintenance, while doing zip to justify it. He can do this at SCFC for another few years. The only way out of this is for him to name his price to do one and then negotiate from there. Whatever the outcome in football there is always just one winner and that's the player, or maybe two if you include parasitic agents.

First half against us at home they looked to be the worst Villa team I'd ever seen. They then won ten on the bounce after that game I'm convinced we don't even have to improve that much to be involved next season. Exactly. They're all pretty average as are Huddersfield and Cardiff. Fulham might be a different proposition but we should have enough to at least compete. I tend to agree also. We did pretty well against the top six WBA excepting. The key though is whether we will be starting next season with an improved side....fingers and toes crossed

Great game to watch. I wont be popular saying this but I thought Liverpool controlled much of the match without finishing their chances. Shame they couldn't get that away goal 1-3 at Anfield might have been quite a game.

I would imagine Blackpool or back to Scotland. Ideally Scotland but if it's the Championship I'm sure we'd get them down to ten men if hes playing 😁 At least you stopped short of the lazy cliche of a walking red card. Maybe you should check his career stats...it might surprise you. I am glad we had Charlie and I have enjoyed watching him much more than the current crop of untalented charlatans. Good luck charlie...one of the good guys.

Credit the club for this Video though. They have captured the mood perfectly as every fucker, even the kids look mightily pissed off

There isn't a lot of similarities between what Norwich have done and what we are trying to achieve. Norwich had the vision and contacts to find a manager schooled in the art of management at Borussia Dortmund and Norwich have a significant number of european imports in their starting xi. Some incredibly savvy buys presumably initiated by a decent scouting network and the contacts the manager has in Europe. Contrast that with our approach... a manager schooled in management at Luton Town and trying to reproduce what he did there in Div 2 at SCFC in the championship. Added to that his recruitment will be enthusiastic but untried at this level recruits from Div 1 and Div 2. I know many posters are happy with this approach but it's an approach which is likely to keep us in this division for a good many years. No inexperienced manager from Div 1 has gotten a team promoted since Eddie Howe although Chris Wilder may change all that in 3 years at Sheff U. If NJ gets us promoted within 3 years it will be some achievement for an inexperienced manager

For those expecting a major overhaul of our forwards and attacking options could well be disappointed. His chosen 'go to' disciples of Ince McClean and Clucas will be still be first picks come August. A line up that includes Allen Etebo Clucas McClean and Ince will deliver as they have all season, very few goals...they have managed just 20 between them! Maybe Jones is going to follow the TP blueprint at M'boro and hit the playoffs while scoring less than 50 and boring every fecker into the bargain.

We get a free kick in the opponents half then break our necks to take it as quickly as possible - fucking sideways or back I lost count how many times we were under pressure today from our own free kicks in the opposition half it's fucking wank, an opportunity to play the ball forward into or around the box which is exactly what almost every team we play does but not us. Then we have corners it certainly doesn't look like anyone practices them we must be the worst set piece team in all 4 divisions we really are that wank. Gouranga. Managers tactics and coaching

He doesn't create much will contribute maybe 3/4 goals in a season. Can't fault his commitment but we simply have to get players in who can get close to at least 10 per season. You look at our midfield options McClean Clucas Allen and Etebo and there is maybe a dozen goals between them. The managers boner for Clucas and McClean in the same team is one of the reasons we have scored so few in the last 10 games. Today was a perfect example where the defenders got our forwards out of jail. It won't happen very often

I think that lets off the other individuals too much though doesn't it. £17M for Wimmer I cant lay entirely at the manager's door. A process that allows that madness is surely flawed? I can't think the Berahino situation wasn't discussed at board level but we went ahead. A search engine was the only thing required to get red lights up against Imbula. Whether its pissing about with the Bruno deal to insanely long contacts to letting the only passable left back at the club leave and paying virtually all his wages into the bargain, the outputs almost all clearly signal to something that is broken. It’s a difficult situation if the manager’s made his mind up he wants someone though isn’t it? Block that move and you risk him flouncing off and then there’d be all the noise about meddlesome men in suits interfering with the manager’s plans, which unbelievably Rowett got sympathy for despite him getting his own way almost every time. What you need is, again, what Norwich have managed to find, football people in the key roles who are all on the same page and all have 100% clarity of what the vision is and what principles underpin it. I think one of the keys to our poor recruitment has been exactly the fact that the manager has been given too much ultimate say in which players get recruited. I get your point about throwing toys out of the pram but there has to be someone saying...'whoa hang on here' The Wimmer signing for a ridiculous amount of money was a prime example. Firstly poor, lazy identification of a quality CB. It's likely the recruitment team came up with few options and Hughes took what was on offer in desperation. Coatesy wanting to back the manager said OK. I am MD of my own company, however I can be overruled and often have been by my board. In most cases they were right and I respect their experience. I know football is different but when such huge sums are spent, the wrong recruitment can be costly and have a detrimental long term affect, just like we are seeing today. I think the board has to be able to say no to the manager or insisting on more due diligence take place before a player is chosen. The difficulty here is that the key members of the 'process' are as follows; Scholes...basically a bean counter and should only be involved in contract negotiations Cartwright... basically an ex agent, lower league player and as such a lightweight JC and PC....Are Stoke supporters through and through and I am sure just want to keep the manager happy. If I was manager and Scholes or Carto tried to overrule me over a signing, I would suggest they do one as they didn't have the knowledge and experience to back up their concern. In terms of footballing knowledge they are pygmies. What's needed, but will never happen, is Carto demoted to just agent negotiations, Scholes stays in his box and a serious highly experienced DoF with European contacts, and someone a manager can respect, when they say 'hang on a minute' takes charge of the whole recruitment process. That's the only route to success for me.

I think it will. I don't see a quick return with the current state of the club, poor recruitment and an inexperienced manager. And of course there is every chance the 'self sufficiency model' will be back on the agenda when the parachute payments cease hence the appointment of a manager who knows the lower leagues. I am not that fussed about a quick return but if it was me running the club I would have looked abroad for a manager particularly Germany or Austria There's evidence to suggest we're done with any overseas recruitment. We haven't had a non-British manager since Boskamp, and the last 8 players we've signed were all British. Apart from Etebo, whose time here is probably not long, we still have a few foreigners on our books, some of them in the academy, but the seniors are probably on the way out too. I too would have looked for a foreign manager/coach/director of football combo to shake things up completely, but it's not how this board works. I agree with you. I am still baffled why the board have an issue with foreign managers when many champs teams have been promoted by foreign managers and Norwich are the latest. Its fair to say our overseas recruitment has been dire but that is more to do with our poor recruitment than a bad strategy to recruit from abroad.

There is certainly evidence that Div 1 managers can make the step up to the championship ok. However if your ambition is promotion to the Premier League then recent history suggest only Eddie Howe has come from Div 1 to manage in the Premier League. Most of the promoted teams in recent years have been managed by experienced managers or foreign. I might be wrong feel free to correct me. Maybe Chris Wilder, Lee Johnson or Dean Smith might buck the trend this season but boy they have been around for a while and it's taken all of them a good few years of experience to get anywhere near the Prem. I am not convinced Nathan Jones is the next Eddie Howe. However if he succeeds in getting promotion in the next couple of years it will be an almost unparalleled rapid rise for a manager. It might well take him 'a good few years of experience'. That might be exactly what we need. I think it will. I don't see a quick return with the current state of the club, poor recruitment and an inexperienced manager. Indeed its quite a success story at Norwich but not a model thats particularly relevant to us. Norwich went for a foreign coach with knowledge and contacts of Europe, Germany in particular. The successful side is based on foreign players a few hardened in the Bundesliga. The Norwich model is one that saw promotion success at the likes of Huddersfield, Fulham, Wolves Watford etc. SCFC on the other hand will be dredging div 1 and div 2 trying to find some gems who may or may not make the step up. Their big success is that they ditched their CEO in favour of a sporting director... We don't actually know that about Jones do we? We're just assuming there but actually there's every chance he's got some decent contacts given the managers he's worked for and his time in Spain, plus Paul Hart's experience. Not sure Paul Hart has much to bring to the table, he has been working in the lower divisions for some time. Jones hasn't really had much overseas experience though has he? Worked under Garcia for a short while but there was no evidence of overseas recruiting at Luton. The reality is that Jones is very inexperienced at recruiting anywhere other than lower divisions or Scotland and ireland. it would be really useful to have a decent recruitment network across Europe that can help Jones but there isn't. I am not saying recruitment from Europe is a must but without it I remain unconvinced that fishing in a UK lower league pool will really find what we need.

Yes it is subjective. I guess by worse I mean players currently plying their trade in the lower echelons of the English football league. I suppose it can work out but you are accepting that as a recently relegated team you have no inherent advantage over the other 23 clubs, so if you go down this route you'd better be bloody good at it. I think we can quite safely say we’ve spunked any advantage well and truly up the wall. Norwich have proven that it can work. Their entire side cost less than what they sold James Maddison for.
