I hate Ipswich. Filthy, dirty, provincial, backwater nothing of a club filled with cheats and inbreds.
Simonsen - 7 One scary moment, but an unsoiled sheet Griffin - 8 Shawcross - 7 Cort - 5 Dickinson - 7.5 Lawrence - 7.5 Whelan - 8 MOTM Delap - 7 Cresswell - 7 Sidibe - 7 Fuller- 6 Although to be fair, he was pentuple marked.
Referee - 4
Jonathan 'Best player in the league' Walters - 2 and a cheat to boot
The referee was a hopeless clown. No consistency and now we must do without the long throws in a week's time, providing that the suspension doesn't come into effect for a week. He and the linesman on the John Smith's side didn't have a clue and managed to turn down a cast iron penalty claim. They then managed to decide that Liam Lawrence should be booked for...for...for...oh yes, one of those nice tippy-tappy players fell over standing near him. How Walters didn't get booked early on for trying to play without a shoe I don't know. Didn't Rooney get booked in Euro 2004 for his shoe coming off while he was being kicked to pieces? The nancy boy instead ran around barefoot for a few minutes. Griffin should have stamped on his foot to teach him a lesson.
There was no evidence of the apparent great effectiveness of Ipswich's style of play either. They had no cutting edge, like Brazil, and resorted to passing it around the halfway line and poor shots from distance (apart from one which was pushed around the post by Simonsen). Whelan is starting to really look the part, along with Griffin. These two would share the man of the match award for me, but when pressed I think Whelan earned it. Got stuck in today for the first time and his range of passing was superb. Pleased with Dickinson too, barely put a foot wrong, good crunching tackles and an all-round good performance. If there was any downside in this steady performance, it was Fuller, but you can't expect miracles off a pentuple-marked man.
The league is now ours to lose. We need to keep up the form.

Simonsen - 8 - pretty quiet game but was ready with a great save when called on Griffin - 6.5 - few hairy moments, does not get forward enough Shawcross - 6.5 - so so Cort - 7 - did not really notice him! Dickinson - 8 - distribution needs improvement but great game Lawrence - 8 - wonder goal but nearly chucked it all away with a suicidal backpass to simmo Whelan - 8 - best game in a stoke shirt Delap - 8 - MOTM for me - great defensive cover Cresswell - 6 - bit out of it Sidibe - 7 - extra point for the overhead shot ;D Fuller- 6 - ball seldom fell for him and when it did he uncharacteristically wasted it

MD, take some exaltation - pretty much how I saw the match. However, what did Cort do to deserve a 5? Thought the whole defence played well today. Still some dodgy distribution from Dicko initially, but he seemed to grow into the game and was even a relatively calming influence. Defensively, I think he's better than Pugh, but Pugh just about edges the selection for me. Difficult to explain, but I just think he gives us more attacking options, and his first touch can be fantastic at times.
Today's ratings....
Simmo - 6.75 Griffin - 8 (MOM) Shawcross - 7 Cort - 7 Dicko - 7.5 Lawrence - 7.5 (Absoultely cracking goal - but loses 0.5 a point because he really should have pulled the ball back for Fuller after that run at the start of the 2nd half) Whelan - 8 Delap - 7 Cresswell - 6.75 Sidibe - 7 Fuller - 7 (His first touch let him down at times today)

Simo 6.5 - Good save, didn't really do much wrong
Dicko 7.5 - Thought he had a great game today, very calm on the ball, nice touch and doesn't always look to hoof it, just needs ti improve his distribution at times.
Griff 7 - Improved as the game went on, very good second half, loved his surge forward to win the corner
Cort 6 - Nothing spectacular
Shawcross 5.5 - Not his best game, didn't win as much in the air, still not bad though
Whelan 7.5 - Good game in the middle
Delap 7.5 - Another good game for Rory, and ever threatening with the long throw
Cresswell 6 - Run around for us, and not his favoured position, but still struggles to beat his man and often our possesion ended with him
Lawrence 8 - Outstanding today, just gets better and better. So composed on the ball, with the confidence to take his players on, plus another great goal
Sidebe 7 - Another good game for Sidebe, would have been magical if he'd converted that chance.
Fuller 6.5 - Wasn't really at the races today, first touch was a little poor at times but it's difficult to impact the game when every time he touches the ball theres 4 players swarming around him
