A couple stand out for me.
The famous Norwegian radio commentator after the 2-1 win v England will always be the best sporting moment ever for me ,was class...there was a similar College American Football one a few years back except the guy burst out crying when his team conceded a touch down in the dying seconds.
One I never get bored of seeing is the Brazil v Zaire clip in the 1974 World Cup. Hilarious stuff. Brazil had a free kick about 25 yds out, they spotted the ball and the ref blew the whistle to take. Before a Brazilian could move, a Zaire player rushed out of the wall and hoofed the ball down the field. The look of amazement on his face when he was booked was classic, bizzare moment. he genuinly didn't seem to know what he'd done wrong.
Anybody any others?
Mwepu Ilunga was the culprits name btw......footie legend as far as I'm concerned ;D

May be a little obvious, but England whopping the Germans 5-1 has to be one of the all time shocks
I remember sitting in disbelief at what I was seeing as Owen et al trounced our footballing nemesis (in my lifetime anyway!)
Fab!
Was also at Old Trafford when Becks popped THAT free kick in vs Greece - Sat behind the goal he scored in to spark an almighty mental in the crowd - Not of Stoke standard but impressive none the less! The day did have its downers though - Manchester was no place for the feint hearted before or after the match as it became some sort of British Bulldog game between various rival firms beating shit out of all and sundry.

My absolute fave non Stoke moment is the classic Di Cannio “pushing” Paul Alcock over! Funny enough because the push would have had problems shifting my gran from a buffet queue at a wedding and he went down like a sack of shit! The real icing on the cake though was when that “hard man” Winterburn came over mouthing it, when everyones favourite Itai nutcase turned around to take on this Gooner gobshite!
Winterburn’s face should be put in the national portrait museum as the accepted standard of a mans face as he shits himself. Classic, banned? Di Cannio should have got a knighthood!

The Rene Heguita save at Wembley was class!!!
Anything that involves Man U getting their noses put out of joint is always good for a laugh.
The support of the Korean and Japanese fans for their teams in the last World Cup was nothing short of incredible.

Quite enjoyed Italia 90 (first world cup for me!) Things that stick out are obviously the penalty shoot out, Gazza crying. Platty's goal against Belgium probably clinches it.
Quite enjoyed the Croatians knocking out Germany in France 98.
Any sort of Giant Killing is especially nice, York City knocking out Man Ure and Wrexham beating Arsenal stick in the mind.
Wasn't born but seen the Brazil side from the 1970 Mexico world cup, THAT goal against Italy (i think) is absoute poetry in motion, the lay off by Pele is pure class.
Dude who scored for Uruguay against Belgium (correct me if I'm wrong) with a wicked volley top corner was pretty tasty.
Totally agree with JR about Zaire and the Norwegian commentator. Two bits of football folklore that will be remembered forever.
Seem to remember some club commentator for Swindon crying when they got thumped about 6/7 nil at Burnden Park, that was pretty funny.

Awww...Mr Magic Pants! Italia '90! Always get very emotional when I hear Nessun Dorma! Think that was the best World Cup in my memory - as a complete event.
Had a mini-mental (with a dog) in a caravan in Cornwall (with non-football people) when Dennis Berkamp got that winner againts the Argies in France '98 - class goal at the death (one of my favouriate players).
Just the way the title finished in 87/88(?) - when Arsenal beat Liverpool (Micheal Thomas?), as that was right to the wire!
Funny moment: (It's a Stoke one mind)
Those 3 players for Lewes against Stoke in the cup! Each one taking it in turn to step over the ball and leave it to the other until....opps!...no more players to take the kick! Class.

Mine has to be the Jimmy Glass last minute goal for Carlisle to them in the league.
A keeper on a short term contract comes up in the last minute and bangs the goal in that saves Carlisle's league status absolute quality. Seeing thousands of carlisle fans running on the pitch in jubilation.
I remember jumping around myself and i have no connections with Carlisle at all.

Psycho's celebration after excorcising his demons against spain in euro 96,
Gazza's goal against the Scots in Euro 96,
Linekar's equaliser against the krauts Italia 90,
Owens goal against the Argie Bargie's France 98,
Beckhams last minute free kick against Greece,
Arteta's late penalty for Rangers last season that won the league,
Big daft Bobo conceding a late penalty againt Lyon in the Champions league this year.

Potter 87....
Was lucky enough to be at the Jimmy Glass game when the keeper scored in the fourth minute of injury time to save carlisle from non-league oblivion.
My brother is a Carlisle fan (the poor sod) and I went up there to give moral support.
Funnily enough, the credit should go with the fans behind Jimmy Glass's goal who bellowed at him to push up for the corner. He turned around, clocked them and then went charging up field just in time to stick the ball in the back of the net.
Y'know I had this funny feeling he'd score.
I hope people will excuse me for going ABSOLUTELY MENTAL when the ball hit the net.
It's the first and only time I've ever invaded the pitch.
If I live until I'm 105 and go to three games a week I'll never see anything like that again.....

Been waiting for yours all day Joe.
A few more
Argentina 78...France and Hungary line up for the national anthems. Both teams remove their tracksuits and are wearing white away strips. A FIFA official has to go and shanghai a non league teams strip nearby and France play the game in green and white stripes of FC Kimberley.
Same world cup. the ref sends of Willie Van Der Kerkhoff of Holland during a bit of handbags v West Germany. After a few minutes order resumed and the ref realises the wrong player is sent off. Van Der Kerkhoff has to be called back from down the tunnel and Nanninga sent off instead!!!

Gazza's goal against Scotland and England beating Holland 4-1 at Euro 96. QPR coming back from 4-0 down to draw 4-4 at Fail. Fail losing to WBA in the 1993 Play Off Final. This is could be interpreted as sacrilege by a lot of Stokies, but I remember going mental when Michael Thomas scored in the last minute at Anfield to win the Championship for Arsenal in 1989. The joy of seeing Liverpool (who were hated back then as much as Man Utd are now) lose the title on their own patch after Steve McMahon had been seen going round the pitch congratulating his team mates was just too much. What a pisser ;D

Again, possible sarcrilege here.
I thought Man Utd's two late goals in Barcelona were pretty amazing. Sami Kuffour crying like a baby and banging his fist in the ground; the clever people at Champions League HQ even decided to slow it down, I bet old Sami enjoyed watching that match on video.
The Fail/QPR 4-4 was a particularly favourite of mine as well. I just remember sitting there on my own (dunno what year it was but I don't think anyone else was in the house) and moving backwards from the TV as Fail racked up the goals. Was it 4-0 at half-time? Anyway, as QPR began their amazing comeback I then started to move towards the TV again, and by the time Impey scored the fourth and celebrated by running to the QPR fans and showing 4 on one hand and 4 on the other, I was about 10 inches from the screen. Ace!
I smashed a light-bulb when Owen scored his third in Munich by jumping about 4 feet in the air! I've got the full 90 minutes with me at uni on a free DVD that came with the News of the World- superb!

Platts goal against Belgium in 1990 ;D Owen against Argentina in 1998 ;D England 4-1 Holland Germany 1-5 England Beckham's late free kick goal against Greece. ;D England 1-0 Argentina Owen's goal against Brazil in the last world cup - i really thought the world cup was ours. River Plate 1-0 Racing Club in 1999 - I'm a big River fan and we'd had a player sent off, we'd been under the cosh since then and it was the 93rd minute and Racing Club had a free kick 20 yards out. They pushed everyone bar the keeper (who was on the half way line) forward. Free kick was taken, straight into the wall, broke away, Cuevas rounded the keeper on the edge of the area and slotted home for what must be my greatest ever non Stoke/England mental! ;D And finally a Copa Libertadores match between River and a Brazilian side (cant remember which one), River we losing 1-0 with ten mins to go before equalizing and then my favourite player Cavenaghi netted a SUPERB winner, another great mental and have watched it over and over again since, the crowd went quiet just like against Man U for Steino 1st goal when the ball left his foot as he broke clear because he looked miles offside (but wasn't!) None of the above can compare with Cardiff 0-2 Stoke though. ;D ;D ;D

Yes, it was 4-0 to Fail at half time, and they had a perfectly good goal by Tony Naylor, which would have made it 5-0 (and game over probably), disallowed.
What a shame eh? ;D

None Stoke but with a Stoke connection: Going to watch FC Turnhout in an away match in Belgium. They took a full coach (this is Belgian third division here!) and 75% of them were wearing their Stoke tops from a previous visit to the Brit to support JvD. These guys (and gals) made us SO welcome, and plied us with beer all night ;D. It was almost surreal seeing a team playing in blue supported by a group sporting OUR Red & White stripes (yet they really 'hate'; Red & White) Between us we drank the place dry that night A group of them also made the visit to the Mill Stad for the play-off final. On the video you can see JvD acknowledge their giant Belgian flag. Top blokes ;D

Liam I would have to agree with you. 'That' goal by Jimmy Glass will be replayed for many years and I will always remember it, even if it wasn't for our club it was still pretty special considering all that went with it.

World cup final 1966. The greatest achievement in England's footballing history. Agony at the end of normal time and Ecstasy in Extra-time, most of which my Father spent making coffee and wandering in and out of the back garden. Poor bloke just couldn't stand it. I was only 9 and perhaps didn't realise the enormity but I still remember so much of the game vividly. Allan Ball really WAS a hero to me that day. Absolute boundless, Akinbiyiesque energy. I'm afraid he went and soiled it somewhat later on in my life. One good reason to be thankful you're getting on a bit. You can always say "I saw England win the world cup"

I've got dozens of favourite nogger moments. Even non Stoke ones!
Marco Tardellis celebration after scoring in the 82 World Cup Final. Clenched fist and face contorted in ecstasy. That how it feels to score the goal that clinches the World Cup!
Milans staggering destruction of Barcelona in 1994 European Cup Final. Barcelona under Cruyff played an attacking style that at times bordered on being reckless. Milan were a dour defensive side. They had won serieA that season with about 12 1-0 wins. So when the final came round and Baresi and Costacurta were suspended they looked doomed. Their defence would be depleted and without a potent strikeforce they had no chance. On the morning of the game Cruyff was asked how he thought the game would go and he simply shrugged and replied that Milan could have bought Romario but went for Desailly instead. Understandable coinfidence given the circumstances. BUT the style Milan employed was flabbergasting. They tore into Barcelona with abandon. Playing methodical constructive creative football. It must have completely caught out Cruyff as nobody could have expected Milan to be so fluent. Sometimes its wise to do what your opponent least wants you to do. Capello must have thought that. They won 4-0 and the second was an Italian masterpiece. Massaro finishing a move of about 18 passes. A wonderful performance.
Ipswich winning the 78 FA Cup. Beating Arsenal in the final. A victory of good over evil.
England beating Argentina in 2002. Marvellous. We thoroughly deserved it too.
A beildered Alex Ferguson interviewed immediately after the 99 Euro Cup Final and saying "Football.....bloody hell!" Summed up the moment perfectly!
