I think we did, although Simo has been superb for the last few years and even now hes not bad at all. I just can't get to the bottom of why we seem to be conceding so many goals just lately. I was only thinking last week maybe it's the keeper? Is it? We may now find out!

We have two centre backs who, despite their ability, are not great organisers - although Shawcross still has time to develop this side of his game. Simo's weaknesses this season have been a dodgy approach to crosses and the fact that he is not very vocal. Fulop is said to be good at both these things and like Simo, is a good shot stopper. Hopefully, Fulop will be able to provide the leadership in the penalty area which our back 5 doesn't have at present.
I like Simo and will be sad for him if he loses his number 1 status but there isn't room for sentiment - we have to have the best keeper we can find. Those old enough to remember Banks will remember how much he brought to Waddo's sides and Crossley transformed the team in TP's first season. We have to hope that Fulop brings that little bit extra to our defence. If he does then I reckon we'll clinch auto promotion.

That is exactly what I was thinking TBH. This really could be a good siging but a stange one too as we all seem to like Simo but maybe this is what we need...

I'm beginning to laugh at this Simmo is crap on crosses bandwagon that is gathering pace. I have to assume that it is being posted by people who have little idea on that which they pronounce judgment.
Simmo has blundered at Barnsley for sure but where is this great weight of evidence against him? I am super critical, of keepers but I have no qualms about Simmos decision making in this area.
We have conceded plenty of goals in the last three or four matches but perhaps someone can point out exactly which crosses he should have come for to prevent them? It is pure bullshit.
The bigger part of the problem is the number of opportunities the opposition have for knocking crosses into the box and for that have a close look at the full back situation.
Griffin is and always has been a better left back than right back. I don't know what Pugh is but I can tell you he is no left back. His best game has been in central midfield. He certainly is not the answer to our left midfield problem as he hasn't the pace we require. It seems to me he is being played where he is as a matter of playing him somewhere.
We shall see when Wilko is match fit again because the best full back partnership is certainly Griff at his favoured left back slot and Wilko in at right back. Perhaps then the ball will not arrive so frequently into the danger zone and the keeper will not be as exposed as Simmo was against Scunny, for example.

It most certainly is not crap and it is not jumping on the bandwagon.. Simmo is crap on crosses and doesn't command his area! FACT.. The bloke is Stoke through and through but he aint good enough

Simmo is one of the best English keepers out there. I hadn't noticed the "not commanding his area" stuff until this season, but I can totally see what people mean - like Cort and Shawcross, he seems to be guilty of not shouting enough.
As much as I rate Simmo, and I still think he'll be our first choice next season - he needs a kick up the arse and the team needs a "bollocker" at the back to organise things. Since Tony clearly isn't going to drop either of his £1m centre backs, he's obviously decided to try someone new in goal.

Firstly Simmo is no where near one of the best English keepers out there.. He is a great shot stop and nothing else.. Talk of dropping Shawcross or Cort?? WHAT? Simmo should be telling them "MY BALL" Not them shouting "Simmos ball"!

I didn't say anything about dropping one of the defenders. I said that none of them (the two centre backs and Simmo), as good as they are, are vocal enough, and understandably Pulis isn't going to drop either of his £1m centre backs, and so he's probably looking at bringing in a more vocal keeper. AT NO POINT DID I SAY EITHER SHOULD BE DROPPED.
Name 10 English keepers better than Simmo. I can think of Foster, Carson, James, and (just about) Robinson. Who else? Green is only a good shot stopper, he's horrendous on crosses. Kirkland's positioning is horrendous.

Simmo is a decent keeper but does not command his box
Our centrebacks aren't vocal enough so we need an organiser behind then
Pulis has recognised what Waddo did - that any good team starts with the keeper
I wouldn't expect Fulop to come straight in but I can see him playing as soon as Simmo falters. I suspect he has been brought in as much for next season. Far too good to sit on the bench
I also agree with MW that too many crosses are coming in - which also needs to be addressed
