I rate Simmo but he a little shaky lately. Maybe with Fulop in goal, he may organise the central defenders which would make us more secure at the back. Just a thought.

Official site calls him a good shot-stopper, but he has a reputation of being a bit of a communicator, which is exactly what we need. Keep the defence in order. Maybe give him a week to make himself known first.

I don't know much about him either, I understand he has been on loan at Leicester until last month. They have conceeded less goals than than us with defenders inferior to ours. Is this the basis most are pleased with his arrival?

Some Leicester comments... They loved him!
I would have thought if we are willing to part with 1.5 for Howard we certainly would for Fulop!
We should sign him at all costs. Start from the back. He oozes confidence and the back 4 can be confident when he plays.
He is very good indeed and I would imagine he is worth 12pts a season. and thats quite alot for us at the moment, offload the garbage and get him in at all costs.
Whats the point of having a multi-millionaire owner if you cant splash the cash?, we all know Fulop is quality.
if we don't sign fulop i will shoot roy keane on sight. this is very bad news...
He's worth 2 Million IMO. GET HIM IN. He's also young so he'll last us years.
Imo Fulop should of been our first signing. What ever it cost's sign him please.
Come on Milan .... get the chequebook out ! Fulop has been the best keeper here for years !
£2m is perfectly fair for Fulop. I'd have been delighted but sunderland would have been daft to accept £1m. We should get the job sorted and move on.
I agree i would pay anything up to 3.0mill for him. Its not like were taking a risk on him as we know what hes capable of. Hes 24 so hes still young.
£2-2.5 million i'd say was a fair price. £3 million is a high price to pay for a goalkeeper but i don't think there is a better goalkeeper than him in the championship so hopefully holloway will still try and sign him.
Is 3 million pounds too much for an international keeper who could possibly be worth double that in a couple of years? I'm not sure it is
We cannot afford to lose Fulop. We'd be even further in the shite right now if it wasn't for his performances!
If we can sanction spending £1.5m in a 31 year old Steve Howard who is only going to depreciate in value whilst he's here then there should be no problem spending £3m on a 24 year old (young for a GK) who is surely going to increase in value with regulat football under his belt. I'm sure Sunderland would accept £2.5m anywayIf it means we use up our transfer budget then maybe we shouldn't have been in such a rush to pay out £1.5m for Howard. Fulop should have been a priority singning ahead of Howard!!
Excellent, Excellent goalkeeper
He will win you games and earn 1-0 victories which will come in handy for promotion.

Hopefully, it might give Simmo the kick up the backside he needs, if he does indeed manage to play some part tomorrow. I am predicting, he will play and if he has a normal match, Fulop will start against Preston. However, if Simmo did have a blinder tomorrow, he would become undroppable!

Goal Keepers are strange animals though arn't they. It's unlikely he will start tomorrow and if Simmo keeps a clean sheet then he(Fulop) won 't start against preston. If we do conceed tomorrow it's unlikely that TP will replace a keeper mid match so Fulop might get the start against Preston, but if he conceeds what then? It is a Unique position and very tricky, they are either No1 or No2 there is not any scope for rotation. I wouldn't fancy TP's job!
Nice to have these problems though ;D

I'd guess it's pretty nailed-on that Fulop will be number one from now on, possibly excluding tomorrow
Even if Simo starts tomorrow and produces a classic performance, I doubt that'd save him.
He has surely been given assurances that he won't be getting splinters in his arse - he could do that at Sunderland
Keane indicated a couple of weeks ago that there was a queue of clubs after him on loan
Fulop is set for another temporary move away from the Stadium of Light - just a week after Darren Ward, another goalkeeper, decided against a move to Rangers.
Keane said: "Wardy spoke to Rangers last week but decided he didn't want to go there. He's back here and looking to be involved tomorrow [against Birmingham].
"There are plenty of clubs wanting to take [Marton] Fulop on loan and that's something we'll decide in the next 48 hours.
And it sounds like Fulop is desperate for games
“Roy Keane told me he’d sell me only permanently in January, so I’m sure I won’t leave the team this month. But in February I plan to ask him to loan me. My contract expires in two-and-half-years but I think I am going to leave Sunderland no later than this summer.”

News 23/02/2008 - City in safe hands
By Martin Spinks
HUNGARIAN international goalkeeper Marton Fulop has arrived at Stoke City clutching glowing references from Adrian Heath and Gary Megson.
Both gave their blessing to his loan signing after City boss Tony Pulis sought their opinion on the 24-year-old Sunderland keeper.
"He's outstanding," said Heath without hesitation. "He came to Coventry on loan from Tottenham in 2005/06 and was absolutely faultless.
"He's got great feet, great hands - a top-drawer keeper. He will be a great signing for Stoke and I'm sure he won't let them down if called upon.
"It now gives Tony very strong competition in the goalkeeping department with Steve Simonsen there as well.
"We tried to buy him at Coventry and I think we offered £700,000, but he ended up going to Sunderland instead.
"When I was recently looking all over Europe for players for Sam Allardyce at Newcastle, I recommended he bought Marton. That's how highly I rate him."
Stoke went ahead with his signing yesterday after satisfying themselves he would still be eligible for the Championship play-off final under the 93-day loan rule - even if the date of the game is put back two days to Monday, May 26 at a Football League meeting next week.
That leaves Fulop free to line up in Stoke's squad for the first time today for their promotion clash with Ipswich at the Britannia.
Fulop arrived at Spurs from Hungary in July 2003 armed with an intriguing pedigree - his father was a Hungarian international striker in real life, but played for Germany in the Hollywood film Escape To Victory.
Fulop played on loan at Chesterfield, Coventry and Sunderland after failing to break into the Spurs first team. He joined Sunderland for £700,000 in January last year, but was loaned out to Leicester for 27 appearances earlier this season when his various managers at the Walkers Stadium included Megson.
Leicester tried to buy him for £2m when his loan expired on December 31, but Sunderland placed a £3m asking price on him.
Fulop has been capped a dozen times by his country, but was recently warned he could lose his place if he remained in Sunderland's reserves.
"I've been monitoring him for over a year now," revealed Pulis, "because I think he's an outstanding goalkeeper. That was also the vibe I was getting from both Meggy and Inchy when I asked about him.
"I'm just delighted we've had the opportunity to take him to freshen things up a bit in the goalkeeping department.
Fulop's impending arrival means veteran Russell Hoult is poised to join League Two strugglers Notts County on loan after enjoying just one league outing in 13 months at the Britannia.
