The 36-year-old still has two years left on his current deal and will stay on at the club as first team coach.
He told BBC Radio Leeds: "I'm a realist and not a fantasist and know you've got to call it a day sometime."
Chilean striker Willy Topp is suffering from a muscle-tightening condition which prevents him playing full games.
Very sad news about Weatherall but that Willy Topp story must be a joke, had me in stitches.
