Hi Fornside, always read your many posts when I'm able but I wonder if you could help a fellow stokie? We are going to a wedding at Windermere, Ambleside to be exact, on May 3rd. My wife and daughter thought it would be a good idea to book a cottage for the week, I agreed, not realising the significance of the date. We are staying at a place called Troutbech and I wonder if you would have any Idea how long I should allow for the journey back to the Brit on the 4th, for what I think will be the final promotion push. Incidentally that day is my Birthday and the last time Stoke played on that date it was that important final match of the season against Reading, which you will remember we won. (Good Omen, I can't remember us losing on my birthday ever, when I attend the game) The wife and daughter don't Know just yet that they will be stranded for a few hours but, I am hoping to get away with it, using a combination of, the old "It's my birthday" routine and "sometimes a man's got to do, what a man's got to do", explanation.
Thanks in anticipation, scfc lesoak

I'm not fornside I know, and he'll probably be able to give you a better answer than mine, but I have done the trip many many times as I love the Ullswater area , but I would say its around 2 and half hours .
Ps is that Troutbeck ,nr windermere ... or Troutbeck ,nr Penrith , only about 20 miles between the 2

I presume you mean the Troutbeck which is about 3 miles from Windermere? Lovely village strung out on a hillside - you'll probably have great views over the valley from the cottage. The two pubs are at the top of the village. The one on the village road, The Mortal Man, is the local's pub and is ok but nothing special. The one on the main road, the Queen's Head, is stunning inside and does great food but pricey. If you want to do the tourist bit then visit the National Trust property "Townend" which is a wonderfully preserved old house at the bottom of the village.
2 hours 30 minutes of driving should do the journey back to the Brit easily keeping to all the speed limits - providing there are no accidents or hold ups. You'll have ten miles on the A591 possibly in heavyish traffic but you'll probably average 45 mph and then the rest of the A591 is dual carriageway until you reach the M6 at Junction 36.
PS - if it is the OTHER Troutbeck then the journey time would be similar along the A66 to join the M6 at J 40.
Your journey back will be slightly quicker but, of course, it will take you 18 hours to get off the South Carpark if you park there! ;D

Thanks to the both of you ( Ilford and Fornside) for your prompt replies. I'm glad I asked, because I had been advised 1.75 hrs max and it sounds like I could have been cutting it too fine and may have missed the kick off, of what will probably be the biggest game of the season. Incidentally I still think the second auto promotion place could be as low as 80pts, not many agree but as I posted on here earlier if/when we beat Ipswich we will have 12 games left, to aquire 18 points or more and I think that it is well within this teams ability to do just that. We are still the team with lowest number of games where we failed to take some points, I think at the moment we have taken points from 27 out of 33 games. Once again thanks to the both of you.
Regards

That is impressive BSR - it is about 120 miles from the Brit to Windermere so you averaged almost 80 mph! I did say in my post that I had given a time to do it easily and keeping within the legal limits. ;D
