Sorry if already posted ???
The Football League is to investigate the issue of referees giving pre-match interviews following a complaint from Tony Pulis. The Stoke boss wrote to the league after being angered by an interview given by referee Keith Stroud before he officiated at the Potters' Championship clash with Ipswich Town on January 12.
Stroud referred to "a difference in the way the two sides play" during an interview printed in the matchday programme at Portman Road.
Pulis insisted this showed the referee had pre-conceived ideas about the two teams when he should have an open mind before every game.
Now the League's chief of referees, David Allison, has written back concurring with his views and promising to look into the matter.
"He (Allison) was conscious of the fact the referee had possibly pre-judged a situation and should not have made the comment," said Pulis today.
"I'm all for people having their say when it comes to football, but there's clearly certain areas a referee should steer clear of because it can make subsequent decisions, like the refusal of the penalty we should have had that day at Ipswich, all the harder to take."

Referees should not just be above suspicion, they should be seen to be above suspicion. I think it highly unlikely that Mr. Stroud is biased one way or the other, but this was a remarkably foolish thing to do and deserves investigation.
Perhaps he took a leaf out of Pulis's book of stupid things to say to the media which can annoy the fans.

Is it just coincidence that Ipshit interview every referee in their programme and have the best home record in the league ?

I think TP is being a tad paranoid re referees - some of them are just crap! - but refs shouldnt be commenting,no matter how innocently,on games they are about to ref -.

I read an articel in 442 magazine that followed a referee for a day.
I'm sure i read he researched a team's disicipline record and stats to see what he could expect.
Anyone else see it?
