was there in the dark days of 76-77, FA Cup game Blyth saprtans night, Lewes, Nuneaton, Wigan the 84-85 season and many more dark times, Mills & Ball, etc. etc. Started watching Stoke in 69 I was a die hard, home and away starting from about 77, flying in from Gibraltar, from edinburgh for a midweek win against the baggies getting the mail train back from Crewe, sleeping rough in Great Yarmouth for 2 nights just to watch us lose 5-1 at Norwich, all good time though ;D I suppose as you get older, times and commitments change for many people, you introduce your kids and they become the next generation of die hards whilst you pay off the mortgage, run the wife and kids about and get to as many games as you can. I was an exec member but threw my ticket at them in the club and cancelled the direct debit after the 5-0 hammering at Oxford, sometimes enough is enough when players can't be bothered. Still get down regulary but can't do weekdays at the moment as I coach young uns in the evenings and tarvel about a bit with work as well.

I hate these "I've been supporting Stoke longer than you/been to more games this season than you/been to more away games than you/had a season ticket longer than you/am a better supporter than you" threads. Truly pathetic.

Ukyestony, surely the way to look at this is a) great that the stadium is now two thirds full with a better atmosphere and b) some of the johnny-come-latelys may provide our next generation of supporters.
So while I understand your moan, try to put the club's interests above your own?

I was a season ticket holder until 2000 when I moved to leicester, got a family to support now, always make the Stoke game at the walkers, buy repilca shirts etc.
I am the only Stoke Fan in my group of friends, and have always held them close to my heart.
STOKE AND PROUD (Regardless of matches attended, why are some people gettiing the arse about this...."im a better supporter because i have been to more matches than you"
A bit like, " My dads bigger than your Dad"...childish shit really

How many times are we going to have this crap on here?
Why do you have to justify to this individual when and if you went to this game etc???
'I just hope there are a few left for the likes of me '
Maybe if you inform the club of your high supporter status they may reward you by putting a ticket aside in case you decide to go -somewhere out of ear-shot from the part-timers ???

What an interesting thread!
Been a supporter since I was about 8 and that was 43 years ago!
I saw Smithy and Ray Evans sent off by McNaly at Burnley
Had a season ticket in the 'Barker Days' - Luton 4-4 etc
Saw the last games in the old 1st and 2nd divisions at the Vic. I watched the first ever game at the Brit
But, after a while you come to realise that there are other things in the world. It's supposed to be an entertainment business. I've got a wife and kids - girls, maybe if they were boys it would be different (?) Life's too short to spend 25 quid to be pissed off.
They run a business, same as I did. If my product was crap, nobody would buy it - same as Stoke. It's wasn't my duty to buy their 'crap', so I didn't. Now the product is better, then I'm buying - simple as that.
Call me what you like, but it's just the harsh realities of life.
Rant over :-)

I've not been to Stoke for a while, I must admit. and now yes it is getting more interesting and yes I am serioulsy considering returning to watch some games.
In my defence I would point out that i went to almost (i missed about 2 i think) every home game in the holocaust season of 84/85, went to every home game and a lot of aways in the seasons following that right up until the end of the 1993 promotion campaign. Cash stopped me from going so regularly in the seasons that followed but I was there (amongst other times) to see such delights as losing 7-0 at home to Brum and 8-0 at home to Liverpool. So i think i've damn well paid my dues as a stoke fan thanks very much!

Remember Rochdale in the Coca-Cola Cup a few years ago at home? 2-0 down after 5 minutes and I didn't even see their goals because there were no pay at the turnstile arrangements.
Yes, we've seen some dross and been treated so very badly by the club. Yet we still come back.

Season ticket for 20 years Butler Street Stand / Sentnull Stand. Missed the 70's glory days (born 'n' bred in Essex...Southend Utd were my first love!). Then I saw the light and it was red and white.

If we are talking low points, how about 4-0 away at Oxford and 6-0 away at Swindon within a week under Mick Mills? That was tough - as was being a season ticket holder in the three win relegation season 84-85.
All us Stokies have suffered over the last 23 years, all of us have, for various reasons, missed some of the few highs and some of the many lows along the way, but now it seems our time back in the spotlight has come and about time 'n' all.
Let's not spoil that with a cock-measuring competition.

Do people want preferential treatment or something? I'm 20, been a ST holder for 8 years, go to around 5 away games per season. Am I not worthy to go to Colchester away? What a pathetic thread. How many times are we going to have this crap on here? Why do you have to justify to this individual when and if you went to this game etc??? 'I just hope there are a few left for the likes of me ' Maybe if you inform the club of your high supporter status they may reward you by putting a ticket aside in case you decide to go -somewhere out of ear-shot from the part-timers ??? Of course it's a moan. It's all you ever do.
The FA Cup is shit, the Premier league is shit, football is shit, players wages are shit etc etc.
I suppose success is shit now?

I was there when we lost to Blyth Spartans, getting very very wet.
I was there when we drew to luton 4 - 4.
I wasn't there for the newcastle game, but I went to the reply.
I have supported Stoke through thick and thin, and although i am not a ST holder, I go to about 15 home games a season, and 5 away, (in with the away fans).
I have 3 kids, a wife, a large mortgage and an ex wife !!! I am now going to buy these mini ST, because I have just had a small windfall (£200) and I think that me and the 2 boys (age 7 and 11) deserve to spend this money and cheer the lads on.
not sure if this makes me a true supporter in some peoples eyes, but I always will be

Not forget losing at home to Chester, Jezza and missing out on promotion- going out of the cup to Telford under Macari, 6-0 at Forest under Pulis.
Can pick faults in ever manager etc
Thing is given the chance we'd all like to be there am sure.
Was there all through the darkest days etc but so what? Don't expect a stand naming after me just yet. ???

Bearing in mind i'm only 19, i've seen old second division defeats such as 6-1 away to Wigan, 3-1 away to Bournemouth, defeats at places such as Wycombe aswell... more recently at the likes of Grimsby, Crewe, Rotherham, Walsall... I even remember losing 3-1 at Barnsley on Boxing Day about 10 years ago! Considering I wasn't even alive the last time we were in the top flight, i'd say i've earned more of my share of disappointment during my time on this planet

Okay I was there when we won the League Cuo and I saw Pele and Eusabio play at The Vic. I was also there in 1984 - 85 season. I watched us win every single one of our paltry total of 17 points and spent most of the season knowing we were about to be relegated from the top tier (at least we beat ManU).
I followed us at all home games and a good few away as we tumbled so far down the league that we dropped yet another division and finished 15th in Division 3 only five years later.
These days I have kids who need entertaining at the weekends, I don't live so near and I don't have any money so the irony is that I see Stoke less now that we are on the up than I did while we were in decline.
Any fair weather fan out there should know that they are sitting in my seat - I earned it.

glaramara, as soon as the bookies knew i was getting one they closed the books ;D
Most of my time watchiong Stoke over those years had a lot of alcohol involved as well, it took the pain away. When we won 1-0 at arsenal in the early 80's on the opening day of the season, it wasn't until we stopped off at a pub in Watford and i saw the sports paper that I knew we'd won, spent most of the game drinking in the clock end bar and when we heard a loud cheer we thought Arsenal had scored, but it was Stoke and there was a ruck on.

Scouse in relation to the Colchester tickets. I have attended every game home and away this season, in both the league and cup, I will be gutted if I missed out on a ticket for Colchester, as the allocation is around 800 and would go within the first hour or so of business. Surely they are going to have to a system, whereby people who attended X amount of away games, get first dibs. The club should already be anticipating the demand for Col U tickets, and advertising that ST holders with stubs for a given number of away games will be given priority. Unfortunately, I have to be in Leeds for 18.00 on 26th April, so I'll be missing the party.
