I was 17 then and having the time of my life, I remember the game as if it was yesterday. I lived and breathed Stoke City (and still do!), I went to every game home and away and loved every second of it.
It's funny but the games from the late 60's and early 70's really stick in my mind vividly. The names of the players are still so fresh in my mind, including the Leeds side, I could name evey player on the pitch without hesitating once. Nowadays I can barely tell the difference between Dicko and Wilko!
Just to see Jackie Marsh, Pej, Sean Haslegrave, Huddy, Big John, Salmons, Josh Mahoney, Jimmy Roberstson and Sir James Greenhoff in those red and white stripes for a brief minute or so has made my day.

Brilliant, Sidders thank you! The sight of Sir Jimmy, Big John and Mahoney Prince of Wales scoring on the same day.. Hudson strolling through the midfiled like a colossus, Jackie Marsh whacking Joe Jordan and was that Sean Haslegrave with the porno moustache... made my dinner hour.
and don't forget Leeds were a good side in those days, I was a student at Leeds Uni at the time and recall wandering down to Elland Road to see them take on Barca in the semis of the European Cup later in the season - no advance tickets mind, just turn up on the day!

The John Ritchie goal line "header" was against Southampton after Peter Osgood said Big John couldn't play and could only head. Got a feeling Ritchie scored a hat trick; one with left, one with right, then rounded keeper for his third, stopped the ball on the line, got down on his knees and nodded it over the line.
How cool is that?

Well done sidders, would love to see the previous season's highlights when we won 3-2, especially Denis Smith's header for the winning goal. I still think the best SCFC game I have been to (maybe excepting Wembley 1972)

i went to the 3-2 v leeds when they scored a snide free kick in front of the boothen and if memory serves me right all 5 goals were scored at that end, bit like the last two games at the Brit, also remember terry cooper breaking his leg in a 3-0 game but cant remember if we won or lost theres been that many goals when Stoke have played Leeds.

Just uploaded check out some of the Marshy tackle and not a booking in site, and Huddy's run. Big JohnWatching that brings back such sweet memories, I was standing behind the goal, middle in the boothen end around 8 or 10 rows up. I was 11 years old and I seem to recall we ended leeds' unbeaten record that day. Thanks so much for the link, good to see how much of a man's game it was back then and the legend that is John Ritchie...RIP John.

Sorry to be an anorak - but I think that was the previous season, this was very early in our REALLY good season, August/September time. We won 3-0. I think it may have been during Clough's short reign as manager. Happy days - we often did well against Leeds at Stoke, but rarely away - it was much the same with the Shit. Apologies for my earlier post the ending of the unbeaten record was indeed the season before when we did them 3-2. However I was at both games, probably the happiest days of my life. We had real heroes, the type you could look up to, we always saw leeds as a bunch of cheats, which was apparently endorsed by Mr Clough on his very first day as their manager! ;D

Took ages to upload tonight but here is another clip. I wonder if we will ever get to see a world cup winner and hat trick hero play at Stoke ever again. The Famous Stoke City

Cheers sidders, from the first one v QPR I realised just how good a left back Mike Pejic was, sad to see him and Micky Bernard go to Everton.

Cheers Sidders. That was a great time (albeit brief) to be supporting Stoke.
Interesting to be reminded about Joe Jordan. He was meant to be hard, but every time he got tackled he'd collapse in a curled up heap. He used to remind me of a squashed spider...after you hit it, it curls up in a little ball

That was the very first Stoke I went to I take it you've got the Magic Moments video sidders? There are also some other great Stoke wins from that season on there at Birmingham and Derby and at home to Manchester City. Huddy waltzing through the mud at the Vic and the Baseball Ground is truly a sight to behold Is it still possible to get hold of the Magic Moments video?
