Ok he didn't say Stoke fans, but i know what he means. English fans, especially Stoke, will never allow 'their' team to play football, unless winning 5-0.
Just lately we have been playing a lot more football than before (now we have the players like Pulis always said), but again last night whenever Stoke tried to play football, keeping possession and passing along the midfield, there were shouts of 'get it forward stoke FFS!', and Whelan dared to lay it back to Shawcross after 4-5 passes in midfield because that was the only ball he could play with a Scunthorpe player up his backside, what did we get 'booo come on stoke forward'.
When will the thick as fuck stoke fans get it in their thick heads that sometimes, to keep possession, you sometimes have to pass backwards to go forwards. All the top prem clubs do it and their fans always allow their players to do it.
Cappello was right. English fans allow 3-4 passes then shout 'forward'. Come on Stoke fans, you wanted to see more football, then when we try to play it you shout 'lump it up'

There is a difference between playing football at 0-0 or 1-0 up, to losing 2-0 at home to Scunthorpe in a must win match!

There is a difference between playing football at 0-0 or 1-0 up, to losing 2-0 at home to Scunthorpe in a must win match! Especially when we got to where we are by getting the ball forward as soon as possible. Now is not the time to arse about with a new style of play. There's a difference between effective passing football and passing the ball on the halfway line before losing it after being closed down.

Don't where you get that from. People were disgruntled because they were getting caught with the ball all the time, not because they were trying to play football. Scunthorpe played a pressing game right up the pitch and overan our midfield. Didn't help that Diao seemed to be asleep.

So potters11. When it was 2-2 and Whelan passed back to Shawcross after showing some neat touches before laying it back, do you not think we whould be playing football at 2-2?
When would you like them to play football. Some anti-Pulis that we have had to put up with on here for a year or two would say ALWAYS. When we were 0-2 down were you then shouting 'lump it forward stoke'? I bet Pulis would have loved to hear you say that!!!

I am VERY impressed with Whelan. Puts himself about and puts his foot on the ball. Its very rare he loses the ball.

As long as we get results, it doesn't really bother me how much football we play!

Mystical. I agree, don't change it too much to what has got us where we are, but most Stoke fans were calling for more football to be played. Pulis said all along that he would play more football when he has the right players to play it. With Whelan and Diao, he now has that. Surely we must allow them to play football and try to work the opposition.
We've shown plenty of signs of that in the last three matches. Good well worked goals and spreading the play from one side to the other. I just don't think that Stoke fans will ever allow football to be played, as much as they like to think they would.

i am all for a good passing style of keep ball, keeping possesion for large periods of time and during the opposition out giving us more room to play football
i dont like it when we do this for a few minutes without gaining anything then allowing oursleves to be pushed back so far that the last man plays it back to simmo and he inturn smashes it as far up the park as he can, it just seems to me that all that possesion was a complete and utter waste of time

Sometimes that happens though. If you watch Utd, Arsenal, how many times do they have to pass back to go forward? Loads.

I am VERY impressed with Whelan. Puts himself about and puts his foot on the ball. Its very rare he loses the ball. SGS Whelan was constantly looking for the ball last night, finding space and rarely wasted a pass,he had to run his socks off to make up for Diao's terrible performance

dave. I agree. Think Whelan is a bit like Carrick. Nothing too spectacular (yet) but always just keeps it simple and moves the ball around.

Sporty,
I'm overwhelmed that you as a leader of the Pulis Rimming Fundamentalist Crack Suicide Squad should feel the urge to lecture on the benefits of possession football and a patient refusal to boot the ball long at any opportunity.
There is an irony in here somewhere, mate I'm just trying to find it!

The higher the standard of football the more clear it becomes that possession is 9/10 of the law. It's so crucial to keep hold of it. When you are winning being able to kep hold of it and stifle the oppositions momentum is a huge asset. Thats one reason England have made a good start with Fabio. Usually now we keep the ball and wait for openings instead of before when we just hit crosses in the box and it came straight back at us.

when Crouch is on the pitch there is the temptation to Whoooooosshh it forward Yep thats a big part of it. Our midfield actually has the ability to pass and build moves but too often they would be tempted to play a long whoooooosher and give the ball away.

Ladies and Gents irony comment of the century!
Personally I don't know anyone who shouts or has shouted 'lump it up' when we are in possession, nor have I fucking heard it either. Although I have witnessed a fair bit of it happening on the pitch. Not the shouting that is , just the actions.

Right now, and so far this season, we're playing exactly how I want to play. We are not LOSING many, and how we achieve that doesn't bother me in the least. WE will play better football when we have brought in better players, but right now, every lad playing in red and white is an hero to me.
