Fishpaste, there's a thread on there about trying to tempt Evans from ManU. They're not serious are they?? Some will be, but only because they are still having difficulty letting go. We absolutely loved Evans up here and he was that good that Man Utd were never going to let him leave after his loan. What a defender that lad is. Very reminiscent of Alan Hansen. The harsh truth to face is that he is simply too good for SAFC, but as weith most harsh truths, it's easier to ignore than to acknowledge. Cheers, fella. Just seems a bit strange that you should have some on there calling us deluded over Jones, yet at the same time thinking that Evans could be tempted to leave ManU for Sunderland. Never mind the thinking that old bacon face would even be prepared to let him go. Football messageboards, eh

Football messageboards, eh We all have a tendency to look at our own club through rose-tinted glasses and presume it's the same view for everyone else. Not many on that thread claiming it would ever happen, to be fair. Evans is the reason most of our lot don't rate Anton Ferdinand. We had our hearts set on Evans and signed Ferdinand when we couldn't get him so he was on a hiding as nothing as an unwanted man from the off.

We have some genuine idiots on our message board, like. But no greater percentage than anyone else I'd hope! Bare in mind though that it is a huge message board for a single football club so that percentage means higher numbers than most. I think it's a good message board myself. By far the one most like the Oatie. Their SMB (equivalent to our GDB) is funny as fuck. I also have to say that the "Lets all laugh at Newcastle" thread is my favourite thread on the whole Interweb. ;D ;D ;D I get the feeling us two sets of supporters have a lot in common; Proper Clubs, working class areas, similar sense of humour. And we need the points now that we've put Brazil to the sword. ;D Just a little history on this one... during out 15 point season a few years ago, a few mags got together and published a book entitled "let's all laugh at Sunderland", and then at the derby at the SoL that season they had handed out black and white A4 sheets saying the same too which were gleefully waved at the home fans. www.amazon.co.uk/Lets-All-Laugh-at-Sunderland/dp/0954408918Karma... ain't it a bitch! ;D

I thought the thread was fairly typical and not entirely unfair. We see this sort of stuff a lot and I think we will continue to do so no matter how we play football.
We are responsible for our own reputation for basic football and while it is not the whole story, given the lazy punditry afforded Stoke, I can understand why other fans cling to it. Over the last year or two we have developed a keen sense of inverted snobbery about it but you cannot blame other fans for not seeing it that way. What many don't see is that if we are as basic and predictable as everyone says, we would get stuffed every week. But we don't, so either we are better than that or other teams are not as sublimely superior as they like to think. A bit of both methinks.
Personally I think the 'shock horror' stories we will see about Stoke as the season goes on will be "Hell freezes over, Stoke start to play football with a creative spark". Sunderland may be a year ahead of us in the Prem, but with a new manager they are a year behind us in terms of developing their football DNA. We are both teams in transition and it is too early to make damning generalisms.

Nice one captain; as you say, we all have 'em! Don't feel worried about having a "thing" for Abdoulaye mate, there's about 24,000 in Stoke who feel similar to you!

they need to wake up and realise they're still not very good. Fair play to the realists on there though
