I agree with Davef and Smudge when they say Gifton brings so much to the team. Ok, he isn't an answer for a 20 goal a season player, but with the right man alongside him (Ade, Sarbs) he really does stand out. I think he has concreted his place more so than Ade or Sarbs, purely because he is a completley different player to those 2 and adds another dimension to our attack. Those who critisise don't know a good player when they see one. Did you see what he did for our 3rd yesterday? Many players would have been knocked off the ball easily, but his sheer strength and skill got him through. He did go through a sticky spell but just latley he has been superb, like he was at the start. Lay off him Stokies and realise how good he is-quick! Jon

I noticed the irony in your post there SS you tell us how good Gifton is then tell us “those who criticise him don’t know a good player when they see one” then go on to criticise him going through a sticky spell?? Does this mean you don’t know a good player when you see one or have you just discovered irony? ;D ;D

i reckon gifton noel-williams is like such a powerful striker. He is what weve benn lacking for some time, a decent striker upfront with him poises a threat to any opposition.

“Going through a sticky spell” is criticism in my book, it’s hardly praise is it ???

Michael Owen goes through a sticky spell. Ruud Van Nistelrooy goes through a sticky spell.
Critisism is something like "Gifton is a slow, cumbersome player who can't shoot for toffee".
Not, he went through a sticky spell.

Come off it spidey. If I got stuck for a while in one of your enchanted spider's webs I could have been said to be in a sticky spell. Doesn't mean I deserve criticism, does it? And before you reply - pause to consider that I have three stars and you only have one!

There is justified criticism and there is blind optimism both are evident here, to say Gifton has not deserved any criticism this season falls into one of those categories.

Gifton never had a sticky spell im my eyes. And I suspect in the eyes of the manager too as He's been one of our most consistent and ever present players. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's not the first name on the sheet each week as he's the focul point for almost ALL of our forward play and brings so much space and opportunity for those around him to get involved.
He just took some unecessary and unjustified stick from sections of our support who believe that he should be tear-arsing around the pitch in a manner for which he isn't made. Well personally I've seen enough hard working, low on ability players in the last five years to last me a lifetime. Gifton's hard work comes in the form of the buffeting he takes from opposition defenders each week and the strength he shows in holding, indeed brushing them off whilst still having the nouse to retain good position and the skill to create opportunity and space for others.
You'll do for me Gifton - Rant over !!!

I think people dont see Gifton in the light you or i do because he doesnt score as many goals. He is a striker so they think he should be scoring, Yet he adds much more to our team than a "scoring striker" would. He must have made alot of assists BeB

SpiderMan,
Why do you attack the poster rather than the subject matter? I agree that this board is all about opinions, but it seems that you never agree with anyone. Must be a lonely, unhappy place to be.
Cheer up a little .... we've just taken 22 from 24 possible points and are doing the best we've done in about 8 years, there's a lot for Stokies to be happy about right now. Yes, it may change next week, yes we may lose a good few between now and the end of the season, but it's still a time of optimism and hope.
Your continual moaning and griping and essentially trying to pick fights with good Stokies leads me to wonder about you. When things are going well for Stoke, it takes a rather miserable individual or a Fail/Crwho fan to be as negative as you have been.
Which are you?

Gifton is a DAMN fine player, as stong as an ox, with a fantastic touch, and an ability to hold up the ball, or flick it on into someones path, that we just haven't seen ... well as long as I've been watching stoke, he has great close control, and shields the ball well, even with 2/3 defenders on his back, he can also turn his man, and picks up easy free-kicks, he gets the shit kicked out of him every game, but just keeps getting back up, he has won more free kicks than any other player in this division (71 I think it said in sport first) . He has chipped in with 6 goals as well, and I think has as many assists I believe (dunna have figures to hand ) yes he's open to crtisism, people moan he's not all over the show like ade or sarbs, and is sometimes seen as lazy, why i don't know, the guy has arthritus in his knees, from previous injuries, arthrirus doesn't go away, but it can be controlled, if he stops running and "acts lazy" in some peoples eyes TOUGH SHIT, give the guy a break, he runs when he has to, not when he doesn't, to see him holding off 2 or more defenders is to see his worth to the team, hes looking for options all the time, looking for an outlet for the ball, quite often he plays it very simple, and often the simple pass, is VERY effective. Also by requiring so many defenders he gives the rest of the team more space, so we have a man over, cos I don't think there is ONE single defender in this division to that could hold GNW up by themselves, noy when hes on song anyway. Go GNW, you are fast becoming a Cult figure among those of us who appreciate big burley hard as nails stikers....

Sorry, Smudge, but Andy Cooke is not even in the same ball park as The Gift! I would compare Ade to Cooke - both players of limited technical ability but with a passion & desire that makes up for that shortfall (except unlike Cooke, Ade can finish! )

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cooke and Ade similar!!!!!!! ! You need your head examing

They are undeniably similar types.
But Ade is the deluxe, top-of-the-range version, with a few added-on extras.

Padders - I justified my statement, and made it clear that I think Ade is a better player - surely you can see that their style of play is comparable, whereas Gifton's is completely different? That was my point. You are right about the head examination requirement, though - but I think that is the case for most Stokies!

I noticed the irony in your post there SS This is irony: [From when the war protests were in London] "Thousands of people are in London calling bush and Blair the worlds biggest terrorists when real terrorists have just kill 200 people in Turkey" -Sky News Gifton- quality player, keeps possesion in the final third and makes great runs. Not worthy of criticism

We need to come up with some sort of chant for Gifton, we've got one for Ade and Sarbs so it's only fair...... ......any ideas? There's only one Gifton That goes and took me all of two seconds to think! Jon

On Saturday in the Boothen, there was a good rendition of "Gif-ton Noel Will-iams" to the tune of "La Donna et Mobile" (Opera but I don't know which one and can't be bothered to look it up).
Sounded good and he acknowledged it with a wave.
