Don't know if anyone noticed the 4th official tell the ballboy in front of the John Smiths second half to stop drying Rory's balls? If this is in fact illegal, which I don't think it is (though maybe there's a question about gamesmanship, etc) then what could we suggest for Rory in his quest for the perfect "as good as a penalty" throw-in?

I'm not sure but I thought it was funny how the Saints fans at one point chanted "Ball boy, give us a wave!" and the ball boy obliged.

CBL:
looking at your avatar, would i be right in saying you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with getting a good grip on various balls?
That aside for a moment:
Rory should wear them noncy gloves (with the grippy "pad" bits) that all the wussy continentals (& most of my U11's insist on wearing). Cue sound of hair being pulled out in frustration.
(But i suspect he's way too macho )

Keep using the multiball system ensuring that theres a Dry ball waiting for him when the ball gets knocked out of play.

I'm not sure it's as good as a penalty, more like a corner but it is damn effective that's for sure, it's something that has gone on in the game for a while. The home ball boys dry the balls for the home team and not the away team it's just part of the advantages of being at home and if it's there to be done and used as an advantage then abuse the hell out of it if it helps rory's awesome throw.
It's happened to us when we have been away from home before.

i agree, i thought it was odd that the 4th official stopped it, it seemed to be after one of the Saints staff complained.

realstokebloke I thought that the gloves thing would work...I'm not 'up' on gloves but i can remember the old thin 'keepers' ones with the dimpled rubber on the fingers and palms. Rory's throws were a bit poor the other night, maybe we'll see a few good 'uns on Friday...?

I thought the ball boys had a great game myself. They eased the pressure by removing the multi ball system when we were under pressure and creaking, but it was working a treat in the first half. As you say, of questionable sportsmanship, but hey, how many teams have done it to us and why shouldn't we make Stoke a horrible place to come!

don't get me wrong, I love the ballboys (and girls) being part of the picture. Whenever it's the ball boys duty to return the ball to an opposing player, I always hope that he holds on to it for ages, or throws it over his shoulder into the crowd, in an 'oops' stylee.. ;D If Rory prefers his balls to be dry, fair play to him.

Much prefer the looping high throw in than the low trajectory missile that rarely beats the 1st man.

I noticed Gorman and Dodd going nuts at the ball boys' ball-drying antics.
I don't know if it is illegal (can't see how?), but I seem to remember some controversy about it a while ago when that Challinor bloke was throwing in some missiles for Tranmere.

They should sew a towel to the bottom of Rorys shirts then he can dry his own balls and tuck it in shorts after lol

If we're using multi ball, surely the ball boy/girl could just throw him a dry ball then dry off the one that has just gone out of play!
God, Rory has got us analysing the ball boys and girls this season now ;D
