Seeing as he hasn't actually been capped for the Republic of Ireland yet, I think our Liam could still actually play for England.
Think about it, people are demanding that Beckham should be playing for England still (and some actually want him reinstated as captain) despite his only contribution to games being his set pieces, which were hit and miss in the summer. All of this was while he was actually playing football too and now he's only playing in pro-celebrity games or pub league games in the USA.
This obviously means that it's time for Lawrence to step into Sir Stan's number 7 shirt for England. He does more running in one match than Beckham is likely to do throughout 2008 and unlike his other rivals for the right side spot, he can actually take set pieces too, as last night showed.
Lawrence for England!

Is he even allowed after being called up for RoI?

I was thinking that. He was an unused substitute so technically he wasn't capped.

I think he is eligable through one of his parents, but has never been capped.
Imagine a Stoke player now getting a full England cap!
How proud would you be?
Totally!

Liam Lawrence has an Irish passport- through one of his grand-parents I believe. He actually alerted Steve Staunton of the fact himself and was picked for his first squad v Sweden but didn't play. To be fair since his Mansfield days he said he wanted to play for Ireland. Trappatoni knows quality when he sees it
