He's a liability in our box and a menace in their box. Perhaps Warnock was right - he doesnt get booked enough. hes a wimp really ? doesnt put himself about or impose himself, at fault for both goals last night

Sometimes we don't Simmo as Cort gets in the way of so much. Cort and Shawcross are excellent at making blocks.

have to disagree mate he is immense when we are under pressure like at wolves and i thught last night he won virtually all the long balls into our box!! him and shwacross have been a brilliant pairing maybe they didnt have there best games last night but no one can argue that leon has bailed us out with his defending numerous time so far and no doubt will do many more times i say just quit moaning and get behind the lads for the push to the prem hoos with me ? ;D P.S - you spelt colin wanker wrong

Suggest you watch the match. From the kick off the ball was played up the field.Cort should have headed clear but missed it and John did the rest.
For the second Cort positioned himself in space to defend a free kick. when it was played square John was not picked up and a simple floated ball found Cort scrambling to make up his ground.
Too late - John scored

what ? if it wasnt for him last night we may well have lost that game and then you would have had a lot more to moan about!!
he kept his head with shawcross not having his best night and was immense in the air, which in this league is vital for any centre half
jus quit tryn to pick faults we won didnt we ? so jus get behind the team ffs!!
GOARRNN STOKEEE !!!!

CEEJAYS
Give us a break!! Are you seriously suggesting that he can't defend?? Assuming he was to blame for both goals (which I disagree) does this make it so? Have you watched him in other games?
The guy does get stuck in, he just does it with a bit more finesse than the average centre half. Actually, potentially more valuable than one who gets a few bookings and suspended??

Too late - John scored Have to disagree. If there is any blame to be apportioned for the first goal, I'd point the finger at Simmo, who was still warming up, and his positioning was questionable. However I'd prefer to take the view that it was a good goal, and leave it at that. Griff was somewhat at fault for the second, but again, he had a good game overall. It's easy to point the finger at defenders, but what about how often our midfield and strikers gave the ball away in the fist half hour of the second half? None of our team is perfect, if they were they'd all be at a higher level. They are doing us proud at the moment.

If you care to read other threads there are a lot of fans who feel the same. Why do we concede so many was one thread. Our back four in their current form will throw away the opportunity of premiership football.pugh is not a left back.he is too small and hasnt yet won a backpost header.griff is adequate but as a unit they are vulnerable, we miss higginbotham bigtime . we have cort, shawcross, zakuani, matteo, broomes, wilkinson, buxton - all who can play centreback but a partnership of any 2 of them we do not have.

He CAN defend, and has done admirably in many other games this season. If he was a liability he wouldnt be in the team.
Hysterical over-reaction to a 20-minute period of Southampton pressure that made us look a little shaky.
How many times in the 1st half did they threaten? And for that matter, after theyd run out of steam 2nd half?
Its all about opinions, but in Cort I see a player prepared to chuck himself into the thick of the action, (numerous interceptions, headers won, blocks made, not to mention goals scored at the other end) if not a natural leader.

I think it’s fair to say something is worryingly wrong at the back. Against Cardiff we had a similar temporary defensive nervous breakdown right after Mama missed his second sitter. Before that we let Preston almost take control of a game were coasting. Against Wolves and Charlton there were periods where it seemed the opposition could attack our goal at will. I think blaming Cort is wrong but fuck knows what the problem is.

If you cant debate sensibly then you are sad.Its not moaning to raise issues which may deny us our dreams. Pulis himself has said how quiet Cort is and he doesnt know how he chatted up his missus (perhaps he is w/e). The fact is we are vulnerable at the back and Shawcross is only a yoing lad.Cort has worn the tea shirt. He should be leading the back 4.He doesnt.Panic sets in - and not only last night.
Debate or personal abuse ?

I think we do need a leader, a big personality to rally the troops when things get a bit hairy. Doesnt necessarily need to be a CB though, I think the pairing we have at the moment is one of the best in the league.
In an ideal world, an Overson-type character who, in situations like last night can say with authority "Alright lads, lets just calm it the fuck down. Okay?"

I vote personal abuse, "bitch"
I agree though, we do miss Higginbotham. The defence is lacking a leadership figure. However i am not going to single out anybody and pick faults with Cort as you did.

Suggest you read a few other threads where one poster stated that Cort at £1.2m was a waste of money.I dont go that far. However he should be the leader of the pack.Comminication is key in defending .Cort is a quiet guy and as Pulis as already identified that is a big big problem

Well it appears we just have ppl on here who moan just for the sake of it. Cort was great in the air last night and the scoreline could have been very different had he not been there and we could easily have lost the game. A dodgy 20 minute spell is not the end of the world and we dot the 3points which is the bottom line so just get behind the tean instaed of picking out every little fault in a win.
