well first off we Remove the season-ticket figure as they have already paid.
at full price, I would have expected a crowd of at best 13,000 so thats 6,500 at full price.
These are not accurate, but a guestimate
I will base figures on pay in advance prices
That 6,500 is split between
1000 in away end @ £17 = £17,000 1500 in boothen @ £17 = £25,500 3000 in sentinel @ £19 = £57,000 1000 in JS stand @ £21 = £21,000 (averageish price of 3)
total £120.500
11,500 @ £10 = £115,000
differance £5,500 , a figure that an extra 5000 people buying food & beer, programmes, merchandise etc. is more than made up .
This is a very simplistic view, and is clearly only a pointer as to what it really costs the club, if anything, but its also a massive PR boost when they do it.

What about season-ticket holders who've already paid?
That rough 'guess-timate' is a mite too simplistic in my view!

smudge, thats the whole point, the 6,500 (is that right) season ticket holders have already payed, so their money is a already in bank, this is all about what the non-season ticket holders contribute

Fairly sound reasoning there Dave. My gut feeling was that we had just about broken even before catering and shop sales plus JS upper tier "membership" taken into account.
They were unlucky with the weather as well, as many who would have paid on the day may have been put off. All in all, a success I would think - certainly I would hope to see at least one similar experiment this season.
The really good news is that the 5,000 extra fans saw a game which should encourage at least some of them to return even at full price. You can't really argue with the sort of entertainment we got yesterday.
The real downside was the Walsall following. 1,000 (max?) for a game at £10, only half an hour from the Bescott is abysmal. They should have brought 1,000 more (with no ID scheme) and that would have been a further £10,000 boost to the coffers.

Dave, I think your 'guesstimate' of 13,000 is also higher than it should be. Given the appalling weather conditions and the away supporters paying full price, I would have estimated that a figure of 11,000 would have been nearer the mark. I thought their away support was poor even considering that they got in cost price. That would make the 'experiment' even more of a success. 18,000 for the visit of Walsall was a tremendous achievement. I think we only got about 15,000 for Sheff Utd coming here.
I sincerely hope the club are keeping a wary eye on things, I know TG is because I was speaking to him before the game yesterday. For the first time in a long time, I am beginning to feel positive vibes coming from the club itself and that is most satisfying. Of course, much of it is due to the efforts on the pitch and we are now seeing exactly what can happen here at Stoke with a successful team.
A combination of a good team and positive marketing is all we ask for. There will always be someone willing to have a moan about something but generally, I think most fans are beginning to enjoy being a Stokie' more than they have for a very long time.
Long may it continue but let's not get too despondent when we lose a couple of games which we obviously will do before the season is over.
OS.
