"Presumably they're no longer in business?"
I think they went on to become Big Ron Atkinson's career advisors.

Was there with my parents and my Dad's mate. The 4 of us still have season tickets. My Dad's mate was quite a bit younger then than I am now, yet he is now collecting his pension! As someone has already said, it has been a long, long time.

On the boothen ...Bradford fans came that night ,collecting for the'fire disaster' ...thought our pain was bad until I met them ..sound lads from the fighting cock / corn dolly...two of the many fantastic pubs in bradford
got to know quite a few of them (' D block drunks',especially Rich and 'the daftest man in the world') as we seemed to travel the same road for a while...
PS to the lad who asked did we cry...no...but I did have a few snuffles on the Monday night at Villa when we got relegated in the 70's , despite there being a none to friendly mob of villa next to us on the Witton end.

I know ...I expected us to be back within 3 years max...half a life time spent swimming at the bottom of the canal with the old prams and bike wheels , instead of in the olympic pool
Our times gotta come again

Excellent thread I do enjoy reading about stokies' memories of the good times and the very abrupt end of those times.
Having never seen us in the top flight (I started watching during the Macari years like a lot of people on this messageboard) I think we have become so used to being a nearly team and our expectations have gone to an all-time low in recent history.
Personally I still cant imagine supporting Stoke in the top flight right at this moment so Im not even going to speculate. Just enjoying the season and putting one over our closest rivals and having the bragging rights for a little while at least!

Was talking to a Spurs fan yesterday and was saying how much he'd love to see Stoke back in the top flight- maybe being polite or just fancied 6 points Would be something -think with TP we'd ruffle the odd feather jpm- I remember the girl in question, Helen asking me on the way to the ground if there'd be any trouble????? Think when she got there she realised there wasn't enough people to start a fight. ;D

I was away at Uni that season and only saw 2 games - the ones we won against Manure and the Arse! For the first time in 23 years I actually believe we're going back to the top flight this time.

I was lucky that season - I was in Leicester, no transport and unemployed! I did see us play Villa (lost 1-3 at home) which was the last time I saw Hudson play and the Sheff Wed match which was one of the 3 we won. The Arsenal (Hudson's swansong) game was also the last time we featured in a league game on Match of the Day! Remember hanging round WH Smiths to read what passed for footy mags in those days - one had a joke - Stoke City went to Fantasy Island....and lost. That stung. For the record.. in 1985 I was 23, single, carefree with a cracking girlfriend...now I'm 46, married , 4 kids, a mortgage, a job and though I'm a season ticket holder, can just about manage half the home games - I can't make this week's games Roll on Ipswich!

Oddly enough jpm, I've mainly been going to away games this season-and if Blackpool and Wolves are anything to go by, it looks like I'm carrying the lucky charm again!
