Stoke star Liam Lawrence is gearing up for derby-day combat at Wolves tomorrow wondering why Irish eyes are not smiling on him.
Lawrence is puzzled about his failure to break into the Republic of Ireland squad after producing the most consistent form of his career.
"I'm gutted I've been left out," said Lawrence, who qualifies via his family.
"I think I've been playing well enough to get in, especially this season goal-wise and assist-wise. I've not heard anything about being watched and it is disappointing.
"Perhaps it's because I'm not in the Premier League, but then you see Darren Potter of Wolves getting on for this week's international and it brings back memories. I just wish I could break back in."
Lawrence's only previous call-up came in the summer of 2006, when he was at Sunderland. He was on the bench in a friendly against Sweden, but then got injured in training before the next match against Chile.
Lawrence hopes to take out his frustration at Molineux tomorrow when victory could see Stoke go second and open up a 10-point gap over Wolves.
Gabriel Zakuani is Stoke's likely cover at right-back for the suspended Andy Griffin, while the onset of Richard Cresswell's two-match ban provokes a reshuffle that leaves Carl Dickinson, Glenn Whelan and Paul Gallagher all competing for a start.
"We must perform to our maximum to get anything," warned City boss Tony Pulis. "Our target is to glean as many points as we can. Any manager says get to 50 points as quickly as possible and we've done that with 16 games to go.
"The next stage is trying to get to the play-offs and then the top two. It's a three-stage season and you have to see how far you can go."

Was very surprised he wasn't included- think Stan picked him in his first squad and that was it, thought with Don Givens taking charge he might be in with a shout this time.
Agree re Potter- was a waste of space

I was surprised when Ireland stuck Potter on at H-T in central midfield instead of Whelan, especially as the manager had apparently worked with Whelan through the Ireland age groups and knows all about him.

I'm sure Liam's chance will come on the international front, his delivery's are consistently good, and he's been one of the league's best player's in my opinion this season.
