He was a twat for the way he went about engineering the move. Nobody could blame him for wanting to play in the Premiership (I don't blame Griff for choosing Derby).
However, as club captain, and therefore the epitome of unity and leadership on the pitch, he should have expressed his wish for a move in private, rather than crying like a little girl in the press repeatedly and sulking.

And feigning injury.
Not the stuff of Captains, not the stuff of Stoke heroes and certainly not the sort of stuff we should welcome back if his Premier dream blows up in his face.

Christ, it really does surprise me sometimes how differently others view the same games/players that I watch.
Higgy is twice the player Cort is. Cort looks OK defensively, but on the ball he is nowhere near as good. I am not knocking Cort (although I am sceptical about the fee we paid), but compared to Higgy he doesnt come close. Shawcross looks real quality mind, and may well surpass him in the future. As for the goals, Higgy got plenty, even if they were mostly from the penalty spot, but that is not the most relevant point when talking about centre halves - do most of of you who think Cort is better because of his goal ratio also think Sidibe warrants a place in the team because of all his 'hard work'? Goals dont seem too important to his fans...
As for Higgy being a cunt for the nature of his move, I agree to a point - but what are your views on our very own Andy Griffin?

Griffin wasn't our player, and was offered a choice between Premiership football and Championship football, and chose Premiership football. It's understandable. As I said in the original post, I don't blame Higgy for choosing the Prem, but for the way he went about securing the move.

IMO - defensively there's no doubt that the Higgy/Dubes partnership was stronger - a quick look at the goals against column helps confirm this.
Overall though - two factors make the present incumbents a better bet - 1) the combined ages and b) the goals for column.
..........and they will and are improving all the time!

Just to reiterate, I don't think we have missed Higgy.
He was an excellent player for us but we haven't missed him that much.

didnt realise it was stone cold fact that Higgy feigned an injury to ensure his move.
it is possible he was actually injured you know.
equally SCFC may well have been keen for Higgy to not play given the size of the fee.

matt, with respect I think (despite the quality of the replacement(s)) we're still missing Higgy like hell and and the goals conceded figure speaks for itself. But somewhere between him and his agent, what could have been handled reasonably well got way uglier than it should have done and I'm still pissed off too.

I liked higgy for the fact that he was a commanding precense in the heart of our defense.
To be honest against QPR last season on the last day, he looked absolutely gutted and i thought to meself then that it would probably be one of the last times we saw him in a stoke shirt.
Atleast though he came and clapped to those of us who went.
but then on the other hand, money talks!!

Sal - I personally think that the style of play has changed and we are more attack minded now, and as I said before the aim for us is to score more rather than concede less. This means that the defence is a little more exposed than what it was with Higgy.

matt, I do agree with that, and life's better as a result. But all the same Higgy was a bit special.
