Anyone see this? I think its get to the heart of what the Potteries is all about as much as anything I've read. Link will probably go wrong so if someone can fix it for me it would be appreciated otherwise you'll have to paste it in to your browser! Cheers. arts.guardian.co.uk/art/visualart/story/0,,2247077,00.html Good article - everyone should read it. The problem is, those two sixth-formers (and many more, no doubt) will probably go on to Uni somewhere and never return to the area unless there's some proper jobs/industry attracted. >> Yes, consider thyself exalted for bringing that to our attention.

Made an appearance on the other board a while back ... Via the Religiously-Musical-One ... You know, the board that isn't football related. Well written article, but doesn't say much. And I agree with the comment above on the 6th formers ... The author didn't understand that they will leave, for education/jobs, and probably won't come back - And that that is most of "the problem" Not Football Relatedah

I thought it was perfect. Nostalgic; sentimental; and to borrow a word from Priestly; quirky even. The sentence which summed up our plight was this.... And that's why we're in the dumps....if we are. OS.

I doubt one more attraction added to the museum of PlateLand is going to keep the two A-Level students in SOT, OS?
That is the type of work Stoke can already bring in; selling T-Shirts, running a kiosk, visitor-information-provision (handing out leaflets). Though I agree the city's attitude to its past is odd - an embarrassment to those in charge - relying on it to sort out the modern day won't work. Room for you in the museum fella, but not for Dan and Sara.
Stoke needs to bring in industries that require high-skilled labour. And the education facilities to train people for those jobs. Then Dan and Sara wouldn't leave (or come back after education if they did). The average salary needs to be £10,000 plus higher, or Stoke/Crewe is destined to stay the transport and distribution hub of the north-west.
If the author was writing an "honest" article, packing and distributing is what she should have gone to see; not the museum, and not the kids doing A-Levels.
