I'm a bit nervous, especially as it seems a complete assumption that 3 points will see us safe, that it all feels like a bit of a forgone conclusion today, especially as Newcastle are "missing several key players" and Shearer "knows nothing"
But Owen still carries a threat, Ameobi will be out to prove a point and Martins is way too quick for Wilko/Higgy
I seem to recall Everton / Chelsea / Fulham were also "missing key players"..and we got one point out of nine against them...........
Not a pessimist....just a realist

Optimism and confidence is all fine. The problem is complacency. I've sensed some on here so just have to hope the players and Tone stay awake.

Yep there's no guarantee that we'll be in the Prem next season yet we've sold over 16,000 season tickets to optimistic Stokies.
I don't think there's anything wrong at all with supporters being too optimistic, the manager and the players certainly wont be, if we win today the (neutral) bookies will be offering ridiculous odds for us not to stay up.

I think it's probably irrelevant how optimistic/complacent we are as fans in the stands.
It's natural to be confident when the probabilities of survival are weighted in your favour (and they definitely are at this stage), but I think there's a realisation that one bad weekend of results could put us right back in the shite. And aso a realisation that Newcastle could easily beat us today, hence the buttock clenching.
Our players are mostly £1m-a-year professional footballers and I can't see them resting on any laurels until their Premier pay packets are secured for another year.

Makes no difference how optimistic the fans are so long as those at the game get behind the team and make plenty of noise from kick off until the final whistle. It is the players who have to tread a fine line between being over optimistic and giving TOO much respect to the opposition. And it is Tone's job to ensure that the players take the field in the right frame of mind.

Are u saying that everyone who has bought ST's are doing it just because of the prem??? I bought mine because I wanna go and watch stoke, prem is a bonus. I surely hope that most people who go and buy ST are stoke fans and not premier league fans.

Are u saying that everyone who has bought ST's are doing it just because of the prem??? Bick I'm not sure I need to answer this question, as I'm sure you already know the answer, but as you have asked ... Of course not, but we've never sold a TOTAL of 16,000 season tickets at this stage before when there wasn't a chance that we might be in the Prem.

Would prefer 3 points of course but a draw would not be that bad, it would leave us 6 points clear of the Geordies.
