a very serious contender for manager of the year.... all the top teams have stumbled this year and not being consistant enough... where as with Pulis everyone wrote us off from the start and he's done brilliantly to get us where we are today!! even if we did end up going down we could do it with our head's held high knowing we give everyone a good match!
i really do think he is the front runner.... but the F.A. tosspots will probably go with fergie....yawn

if we stay in 13th or (crosses fingers) even a couple of places higher, he's got to be in with a shout

definitly a contender, but only if we stay up, otherwise it will mean nothing as far as the judges are concerned

If we stay 13th or above, it's a nailed on certainty.

Even if we came 10th, which we won't , he would never get it. Not a chance. Even though he's done a great job so far, it's not going to be recognised by 'the establishment'

I've got a funny feeling we're winning them over.

It's nothing to do with the FA. It's decided by a panel of about 25 assembled by Barclaycard, mostly journalists but it does include me ;D and also the FSF President, Ian Todd. We also vote each month for the player and manager of the month in the PL. The monthly awards do tend to go to the manager of the team with the best statistical record that month. I always think that insufficient weight is given to the achievements of managers with less resources, in both the monthly and annual awards. The manager of the year award is slightly more likely to go to someone outside the top teams, but don't hold your breath. If we stay up, TP will certainly have a case, but so will Brown if Hull avoid the drop. If the panel does go for someone other than the club which wins it, I think Roy Hodgson, David Moyes and Martin O'Neill will all have their advocates. The difficulty for me in proposing TP is that people think I'm biased . As if. It will be decided at an end of season lunch 2 days before the last game so we might not even know (god help us) if we've survived or not. They take the vote before retiring for lunch and just the odd drink or two and so the panel doesn't tend to linger long in deliberation - a quick vote and it's done.

Malcolm, are you allowed to vote for the manager of your club? EG, are you allowed to vote for Tone?

Pulis has been top drawer all season, signings such as Abdy Faye,Beattie,Sorro and Etherington have been quality. Tactical changes such as Newcastle away and Villa away have been brilliant. He should be Manager of the year but he wont because of the Anti-Stoke bias from the media and FA! Absolute muck but Fuck'em

It isn't anti Stoke bias. It's not seeing anything outside the big clubs. Like Malcolm says there's several contenders this year but we know whoever wins the league will win it. Yawn...

It will be Fergy, and ifhe doesnt get it they will give it to the other Jock Moyes. Stoke are too unfashoinable fr the FA to award anything to us i reckon.

For what Tone has done this year so far, and especially if we stay up, he deserves it. God Bless you Tone.

There's several worthy contenders. Tone if we stay up. Brown if they stay up. Hodgson and Moyes as well. But the dullards just give to who wins the league. If Chelsea sneak in and win it they'll have to give it to Scolari and Hiddink and have two trophies. ;D

All the more reason to want Hull relegated ... but Joe's right, when was the last time the award went to a manager who hadn't just won the title?

I agree with the original post, but I can't believe that Zola hasn't been mentioned, for me he's behind Pulis this year....He wasn't given much chance when he went to West Ham, they were in turmoil at the time, talk of administration, sold quite a few players and Zola brought in youth and from the few highlights I've seen they play some lovely football and score some cracking goals as well...they curently sit 7th as well, before Xmas we all...well most had them down to struggle and be in the relegaion fight. Moyes always does a decent job, O'Neil has stummbled in recent weeks and Bruce has done his usual excellent job, for me to date the top 3 would be Pulis, Zola and then Hodgson.

Zola's done well - his record with West Ham is:
W10 D10 L7
(before he joined they'd won 2 and lost 2)

Joe - I can vote for who I like ;D It's not as if all these journos on the panel are neutrals. They all support teams, and they all have their own prejudices as well. I've voted for a Stoke player once this season - not that it did any good. That said I do try to be objective because I would feel a bit pissed off if another fans rep only voted for their own team.
I am also on the player of the month panel for the 3 Football Leagues but that's a much smaller panel - only 3 of us with Chris Kamara as Chair, so it's much more visible who you are voting for. To be honest it's much more comfortable now that we're out of that because you don't have these conflicts of interest - although even there past favourites like Thorney and Big Chris crop up on the shortlist to test your objectivity.
Paul, I think Moyes was the last one who didn't win the title to win it.
