Not entirely sure but for each higher position you finish, you receive an additional £500K. I have a feeling you get a basic cheque of around £30 million.

oatcake, as I mentioned on here three weeks ago, the exact details of life in the PL are as follows. 1. Basic cash to all clubs, given at the start of the season. £13,534,463 2. Overseas TV money to all: £9,578,954. 3. TV facility fees (due if 10 or fewer appearances on TV) £5,662,945. Merit or ladder payments: £725,061 for each position in the PL, at the end of the season. That means that the bottom club gets that amount and so on..... So you can say £30M in total, for finishing bottom. Not bad, eh? And so important that we go for as high a position as possible, not content 'merely to survive. Not forgetting the inducement to buy more merchandise, sponsorships, private boxes, more prog's, advertising etcetera. In short, it really does pay to be there.

Every game counts doesn't it.
13th place would be a real bonus financially as well as psychologically.

Doesn`t end there though does it??
increased Gate revenue, season tickets, corporate hospitality, club shop revenue, sponsorship, must make the whole thing up to 60 million

I'm reminded of the scene from 'Oliver' when the fat cats are carving the joint to go with the table full of food. At the same time, those who depend upon their generosity stare in through the window at all that is not available to them.
Seriously, it is a bit like that but I know we have waited many years for our turn. I hate the way it's all gone but there's no way back. We can only try to make the most of our opportunity and, at least we are a shining example to those with aspirations, that it CAN be done.

by my maths, 17th means 2.9 m(ladder payment), 13th is double that!
i reckon we could get jose enrique, james morrison or gary o'neil for 5.8 million
fuck it, we finish top half and the z man is a stoke !!

Do you think Zigic is aware that he is a legend here without ever playing? ;D We should have a statue in The City Centre in the Square bit between Lloyds TSB, Alliance & Leicester, The Newsagent's etc to commemorate such a Legend that is Big Zig

Add all that up and it means that for a 10th place finish we'd get £35 million ish. Add to that the fact that our income excluding transfers in and out was about £11 million last season and that gives £46 million. Increased gate money and sponsorship and merchandising would take the total to over £50 million - or nearly 5 times our income last season!!!!
Well worth playing to the final whistle of the last game (to maximise the "merit" payments) I'd say.

Just realised that my comment on 'over ten matches on TV' may be a bit unclear. Put better, I meant that for 10 or fewer matches on TV a club will get £725,061 x ten. (£7.25M) in total, at the end of the season. For every additional showing, it will receive another £725,061 And so on......... Sorry folks. Just don't expect me to be literate when in this state of high delirium, but I'm doing my best.

Monica I think you are making a mistake. The £725,061 payments relate to merit (ie place) payments and NOT the televised game payments which are £5,662,945. for the first 10 televised games with further payments for games beyond 10 games.

We could buy 6 Dave Kitson's with that
Frankly a huge amount of money to spend on signings and wages in the Summer, we could easily f*** off some of the dross for free just to get rid of wages and then spend £20m on players with £10m on their wages.

Lakeland, correct. I warned that my present state is dodgy, although have now put myself in detention, but only until Saturday morning.
