Belief is a psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true.
Therefore Mowbray is about as deluded as God botherers who actually believe the world was created by a omnipotent supreme being (in a short time frame) who actually sent his son (a virgin birth) to be killed (without sin ie do what I say) who came back to life (after being crucified) and cares about everybody (unless you don't believe in him and are hell bound)
