I don't see much wrong with this some kids do support manure, liverpool etc when at school as they don't want to be losers etc, Beckham etc. etc., but as they grow up they realise you can only truly love your local team. My kids however have no choice support Stoke or I will disown them.

Hold on I need to get the facts here. Ten years or more ago a kid you knew had a Manchester United top. Then you saw him recently wearing a Stoke top.
I see. Had he changed his shoes as well?

Give me a freaking break. Could it simply be that he was too young to understand at that age the importance and enjoyment you get from backing your local side?

To be honest this pisses me off to although it is proberly a good thing.
When I was at school there was this lad who always used to try and tell me Stoke are shit and all that because he was a "Man utd fan" but never went a game, now he is a regular at stoke and claims to be a loyal supporter.
Whats to say these lot wont change their mind again in a few years if we go down? Although they are putting money in to the club, they cannot be proper football supporters.

Well listen to this one then.... Get comfy.. There was a lad at our school who used to be a massive Vale fan. He was a real penarse and used to wear his shirt with pride!! Last time I saw him was when he was 16. He added me as a friend on Facebook and I saw his update as "Come on Stoke, Pleeeeease win today" He now claims he is a Stoke fan!!! APPALLING!!

I think it depends what age you realise your mistake. at10-13 you are young and easily influenced by other students about what team you support and therefore can legitimally be turned back to the magical stoke side!!! . However By 16 you are old enough to make a footballing decision and if you havnt made the decision to stick by your local team (particually if you are from stoke) then I think you are as bad as any other gloryhunter!!!

when I was 5 me & my mate supported (for about a week?) "that blue team".
no idea who!
he started supporting Arsenal because they began with the letter 'A'. - no really -
I think if someone 'changes' teams after a certain age (10?) its not really on.

It was my birthday recently and my seven year old was at the hospital having an injured thumb seen to.
I wasn't there (his mum was, we didn't send him on his own ;D) and the nurse treating him saw his red T-shirt under his jacket and asked if it was a Man Utd top.
Laddo said no, I support Stoke. That was the best birthday present I could have wished for. Fantastic!

I couldnt believe my eyes on saturday after the boro game.
There was a lad who I used to live opposite and we basically grew up together upto the age of 15 until he moved house and we never really saw each other, his whole familly were huge vale fans and used to go everywhere with vale, he had every top and the ribbing I used to take off them was unreal, they would even stand in the front garden, waiting for me to return from ladsndads, singing anti stoke songs on a sunday if we had lost the day before, didnt help being around the time when their team had the edge over us - (note I say team not club)
Anyway, went in the Plough after the game, and said lad was sitting their with 6 or 7 mates singing Oh when the reds, I couldnt believe it, said what the fook are you doing here, he replied, I come stoke now, vale are shit - he went and sat back down and kicked off a rendition of We love you city!
What a tit!

I am willing to bet that you won't find a single Stoke fan who started to "support" the Vale during the late 80s/early 90s.
I really have no respect at all for anyone who switches allegiance just to feel part of a winning gang and that obviously includes Stokies who switched to Liverpool or Man Utd when we were in Div 3.
