news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7964790.stmUefa to charge match-fixing club Uefa will bring match-fixing charges against a European club within days, European football's governing body said on Wednesday. Ten preliminary matches from the current Uefa Cup season and 15 from last season had been under review for irregular betting patterns. "There are a number of cases we have been looking at," said Uefa general secretary David Taylor. "Within the next couple of days we'll be issuing charges against one club." Uefa will launch a gambling investigating unit next season featuring experts who will review suspected irregularities in matches from European competitions. "Uefa is setting up this betting fraud detection system across Europe to include 27,000 matches in the first and second division in each national association," Taylor said at the Uefa congress. "Only a few matches cause us problems but we are determined to root out this problem." Uefa president Michel Platini added: "There is a grave danger in the world of football and that is match-fixing. "The match-fixing is the greatest problem. If you know who is winning, there is no reason to play anymore. Buying players and referees is what worries me." Meanwhile, Geoff Thompson, the former Football Association chairman, has been re-elected as a Uefa vice-president. Wonder who it is????

I assume from the wording of the article ("Ten preliminary matches from the current Uefa Cup season") that the club is playing in the UEFA Cup. I suppose the Champion's League is run by UEFA but if they meant Champions League why not say Champions League? So if it is the UEFA Cup then it won't be one of our "big four".

probably be one of the clubs from Eastern Europe if it was preliminary rounds, them or Rhyl as it's mainly full of scousers

I'll take a bit of a punt and guess it has something to do with either NEC Nijmegan -or- Feyenord in the dutch league...
...A few months ago, a good mate of mine attended a betting seminar, where they were discussing betting strategies, systems etc on various sports. There was a guy there who was in full time employment with an asian betting syndicate, whose sole job was to travel europe and explore new betting opportunities, namely on football matches.
He gave my friend and a few others a tip in a forthcoming dutch league game - "in a few days time NEC Nijmegen play Feyenord, Nijmegen will be around 11-10 favourites and WILL win"
Although his choice of words was interesting, my friend though nothing of this, thinking he was some bullsh*tter, but ended up watching the game (which was conveniently on Eurosport) out of interest anyway.
It was 0-0 going into injury time, when Feyenord let in a last minute goal, where the defending could be described as "somewhat half-hearted".
The game was in January, you might even be able to find the "goal" somewhere on the internet.
EDIT... Here's the link, the Feyenord player picking up the guy at the back post has to be questioned!! ;D

"Auxerre would be good. I phuqqin hate those phuqqin koonts."
What's to hate about Auxerre? They are the blueprint for what Stoke should be looking to achieve.
Smallest town in the country with a premiership team. Small ground and little income but they have competed at the top level in France for almost 30 years by investing in the best academy in Europe.
As well as producing world cup winning centre forward Guivarc'h the club has either introduced great players (or turned round the careers) such as Basile Boli, Joel Bats, Bruno Martini, Jean Marc Ferrerri, Stephane Vahiruha, Amdy Faye, Laurent Blanc etc, etc...
They have brillianty used the Eastern European and African markets to buy cheap talent, improve it and sell on at great profit.
On the downside they did resurrect the career of a young Eric Cantona.
I lived there for a year and watched the young Martini, Boli, Ferrerri, Cantona team. Streets ahead of any Stoke side I've seen - inluding the teams of the 70's.
Good bars in and around the ground, great atmosphere and a reputation for sticking it up the big boys. Stoke fans would love this club.
Oh yes - and they even achieved a league and cup double, 2 other cup wins and have had many an enjoyable run in Europe.
If Stoke had had 10 per cent of Auxerre's foresight we would never have spent 23 years in the wilderness. If only Steve Holland could make Stoke's academy as good as Auxerre's.
Allez l'AJA. Goooarrrrrn Stoke!

Allegations of match fixing? Surely we should be looking much closer to home.
How could such big clubs with players oh so talented, who play the game as it should be played, clubs so markedly superior, clubs like West Brazilian Albion and Middlesbrough possibly lose to little old Stoke City?
Unless, of course .........

Cartwright, watched that clip 3 times now, I reckon the Feyonord number 31 the little coloured guy was got at!!! I think he was supposed to be playing right back but if you watch him on the clips he,s never there. He,s go gloves on and you see him near the start of the clip and if he was playing right back, why was he on the edge of the penalty area for the free kick picking nobody up? Just my observations mind you,but watch Feyonords number 31 and try and work out what position he was supposed to be playing
