Sentinel 4pm update...
Meanwhile, Stoke boss Tony Pulis failed to turn up for this afternoon's press conference after being detained on the phone for possible deadline-day transfer business.
But assistant manager Dave Kemp gave few hints of anything materialising ahead of tonight's midnight deadline for permanent transfers for the season.
"You never say never," he said, "but at the moment there is nothing to report.
"Of course we are trying, and one phone call from another club can set the ball rolling as it were, but as of this moment there is nothing substantial to report.
"But all is not lost if nothing does happened today. Loans can still be taken out after the window closes and we all know that is a route we've gone down pretty successfully in the past."
Kemp also insisted the present squad deserved a vote of confidence after steering the club into fourth spot to defy most expectations.
"I think you have to say the players here have been absolutely tremendous," said Kemp. "They really are a good group of players and a joy to work with. I'm sure our fans are proud of them and what they have achieved so far."
Kemp reported no new injury worries as the first-team squad returned for training this afternoon for the first time since Tuesday evening's 1-0 reverse at Charlton Athletic.

So that's no new players then. Every time Stoke provide a quote, they stress the loan route. Looks like we are banking on reinforcements in late Feb.

They certainly find new and ingenious ways to wind the fans up, don't they?
Staggering that they haven't found a way to push the boat out with us in this position.
Only Griffin added to a squad performing outstandingly, but lacking numbers and quality.
Looks like we've got to wait at least 3 weeks before we MAY get a loanee then?

rooney isnt back, not according to the sentinel anyway
He could be lining up against Stoke team-mate Adam Rooney, currently on loan for the season at Chesterfield, after he was again called into the Irish squad

Diao effectivly is an addition Rooney back - strange move. True, lord. But he was signed at the start of December. And we all knew, even then, that we needed much more to sustain our run.

that kemp is a twat,, we know how well the players have done, we are not fucking blind, but we also know, as should he if he has any brains at all, that there are areas that need strengthening.
