Ok we have,nt lost there for a couple of years and they are shite and bottom of the league but they are at home and our away form is putting it mildly shit.They are a good side and if we go there being to confident then im afraid it could be curtains,hope im wrong but not feeling to good about this one,lose this one and we are in the shit so lets not get to over confident and show them some resect because they are at home and we are away and we all know what our away form is like,pretty shit

millermay, thats actually the most sense you have ever posted. What we need to do IMO is be more physical and batter them, they really are the softest team in the division, so get up them early and we'll be fine, and have a HUGE step to safety..COYRRP!!

The ref could have a big influence on this one I think. If he's in protective mardarse mode then I think we will struggle. If he allows the strong tackle then the game will be ours, they can't cope with us. WBA players will be shitting it, lose to us and they can kiss it all goodbye, if we lose then we should just about stay outside the dropzone. My guess is if we get two wins on the bounce we should put the champagne on ice, we could well be 9 points clear of the barcodes  |

Any away game is going to be difficult for Stoke but to stay up we have to take at least a point from teams below us.We wont win all the next 4 home games i am sure of that,so a couple of away points is needed

Stop being alarmist - and what makes you think that either TP or the players are going to be too confident about an away game - I've been to most of our away games this season and we haven't looked overconfident in any of them. If anything we have given our opponents too much respect in many games - especially in the first half.

overconfident is not in our makeup away from home...in fact in the first half of most away games we have looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights...so I am all for a bit of swagger for this one...we are a better side than Brazil so lets not be timid.An early goal from us would be handy
As for being in the shit if we lose.We will lose games before the end of the season and it wouldn't be a disaster to lose this one...Brazil are well and truly in the last chance saloon and its a genuine must win game for them but still they are unlikely to overhaul us and games against Blackburn Hull and Newcastle are much bigger

Of course the thing is, no matter how confident we (the fans) are, the team will approach the game with a diferent attitude. They will not take the game as won, and know that they will have to do their job properly. Understandably the fans (some of them, anyway) do get a bit carried away with our past successes agaisnt the Baggies, but the majority, more realistic one know that in football, nowt is guaranteed.

I understand many people's reservations about this fixture and the law of averages says they MUST beat us some time soon. Neither myself, most of our supporters and certainly not the management and playing staff will display the slightest whiff of over-confidence for thuis fixture.
BUT
We SHOULD be confident. Why would we not? They are bottom of the league and our current form is much better than theirs. We have been better than them throughout the season and it is an absolute must-win game FOR THEM.
we should go there full of confidence and be positive. That is NOT over-confidence.
(Nonetheless, I share everyone's reservations - that's just the Stokie in me)

I am not confident at all.
I do feel that due to our recent home results, a win is no longer imperative, we can take a point, and that would be more than enough to keep us on track.
Our away form suggests we will collect a point at best.

We cannot assume this will be another one for the record books. I think WBA will see it as their absolute last throw of the dice. Lose it and they may as well give up, win and they earn the right to do it all again next week and then the next etc. That said - it could play into our hands. Say we were playing them 2 games later when they were as good as down - pressure off - you know what teams like that can do. Instead, to have any hope at all, they will have to go for it - and that could actually open them up for exploitation. Too early for predictions, but I think a draw may be on the cards. |

No doubt, Pulis' partial explanantion for our poor away is that the club isn't used to playing at PL grounds is a fairly ropey excuse. However, we are used to going to the Hawthorns and doing well. That must count for something.
We are West Brom's bogey team and we've got a great chance of going there and at least avoiding defeat. We could lose, of course we could, but the win is a distinct possibility. If we are going to win anywhere, it will be there. I'd take a draw if it were offered now, though.

If we go into this game expecting to win..'because we always do'...then we may regret it..
WBA gave us a game at The Brit earlier in the season that had 0-0 written all over it until Mama broke the deadlock 5 minutes from time...
They will be fighting for their lives at The Hawthorns and tbh I would settle for a point provided we beat The Jaw-dees a week later...

A win at WBA isn`t essential, any point away is a GOOD point but we should be capable of taking advantage of brazil as they are by far and away the weakest side in the division and despite their `on the ball` capabilities they are the worst too. But...we must go there and respect them as i`m positive tone will as they will fancy their chances against us-moanbray has said as much due to the fact were down there with them. However we look at it this game should present us with a good chance of a first away win but if we don`t it is`nt all over for us.

I do agree that we must be wary, but if ever there was a game for Pulis to change the away approach this is the one. Far too often we sit back from the off, try to obtain and deal with their posession and chances and ultimately get caught, and by the time attacking players are introduced in the second half its near enough always damage limitation with the game being over.
West Brom are a decent football playing team, but they are also host the worst defence in the league vulnerable in alot of areas, and well capable of conceding early on, and if we did stick an early goal into them, i honestly think we'd win the match.
I also agree with Lakeland Potter that we aren't ' in the shit ' if we lose, our home form is PROVEN, 28 points at home is nothing short of fantastic, and i still believe we'll take at least 9-10 points from our remaining home games , maybe even 12? and i think 9 would be enough to keep us up this season.
